If you like vegetarian dosas and don't mind a going to a strip mall, this is the place for you. Each dosa is sufficient for two meals. My vegan friend loved it, and took 1/2 of her dosa and 1/2 of mine home for lunches.

Our experience with Swad was AWESOME!! We hired Swad to cater a number of our wedding events and they did a fantastic job. The food was delicious and our guests loved it! They made fresh budjuas (sp?) at the venue and that was such a nice touch, especially in the winter. We have also eaten here many times and the... More

The food here was exquisite Indian. Being from India, I may have tasted such food only in some of the best restaurants back home in India - it is *that* good! The prices are quite less as well. Highly recommended. I wish they had some outside seating though. One of my American friends couldn't visit them because dogs weren't allowed... More

I went for lunch today. First time there. I ordered Dahi Poori and paid $5.36 with tax. The food was very tasty. The service was prompt. The atmosphere is casual, so don't expect the same level of service you would find at more expensive restaurants -- table cloths, table service, etc. You order at the counter, pay when you place... All those non Indians (and sadly some Indians as well) who eat Indian cuisine in generic Indian restaurants (named Taj Mahal, India Palace, Bombay, Kohinoor, Taste of India etc.) all over the USA and think that tandoori chicken, naan, matter paneer and the like are typical Indian dishes, live under one of the biggest illusions of the culinary world. The... More

I am Indian and have been to dozens of Indian restaurants all over the country, expensive and cheap. This place is the gold standard. The modest surroundings belie the spiciest, freshest, most melt-in your mouth Indian food around! Try the idli and the thali--major bargains. The only thing I don't like there is the raita, which I think is too... More

A Hole in a Wall. strip mall location. Starving for a Gujarati food. Hotel Manager recomanded this place. Thali- a combo for all Gujarati food, was a best choice. Rotali, Dal & Shak. Side of samosa and Shrikhand. Enjoyed my dinner. Will come back.

Swad is a vegetarian Indian restaurant located on North Lamar. It is a very unassuming, basic, and no frills. You order at the register and seat yourself. The vegetarian dishes are very tasty and surprisingly filling. Go to Swad for the delicious vegetarian food at low prices. Dont go to Swad for the service or fancy decor...because there isn't any.... Finally, an Indian restaurant not afraid to add flavor. Swad offers a modest environment (to say the least), very reasonable prices (can't refute that when I got stuffed for $10.77), and a menu restricted to vegetarian food (but who has to eat meat every meal). After so many Indian food disappointments in Austin, there is Swad... I really like it... More
