This is my kind off place! A super casual place with great food. I had a cup of the gumbo(it is really a bowl :-)) Fantastic way to start a meal. Its spicy and flavorful. For the main course I had the catfish mocque (sp?) EXCELLENT!!! They have Abita beers to complete the New Orleans type experience. They have music... More

This is a tiny restaurant in a strip mall... the decor is funky with stuff (posters/pennants/other artwork/etc) plastered all over the walls and ceiling, and tables with aluminum chairs and tabletops of grouted bottle caps. We were there at around 2pm in the afternoon and it was still packed. Best frog legs ever, and the etouffee was good too!

Evangeline Cafe has great cajun food an great value. The restaurant has neighborhood feeling. Live music, great food and cold beers. Chef/owner Curtis Clarke made me feel right at home and welcome even though I am an out of town business traveler. I will recommend Evangeline Cafe to anyone visiting or living in the Austin TX area.

My wife and I ate the frog legs, boudin, and a crawfish pasta dish. Overall the food was good, out of these the frog legs were my clear favorite. The pasta was bland and the boudin was primarily rice, we get boudin direct from Louisiana so I may be a little spoiled. For cajun food there wasn't as much spice/flavor... More

We started with a delicious boudan appetizer. This was followed by seafood gumbo. The gumbo was made with a great smokey roue. For almost $9 for a small bowl, I expected it to be full of seafood but it wasn't, The fish poorboy was good. The menu said that the French bread was made in house. It was good bread... More

I recently was in Austin, visiting a friend, who has lived there her whole life. I'm a Yankee from the Eastern part of the USA, who happens to love Cajun/Creole food. There is just no place to get it here. I asked if we could try some spicy Cajun/Creole food during my visit and she took me to Evangeline's. I... More

My husband and I went to Austin for a quick anniversary get away. We wanted to find a mom and pop style places to eat and I researched the places and this is what we chose. The Cajun food was the best we had in a long time. My hubby went for the platter and he ate every bite. He... More

We stopped for a late lunch at 2:55 pm on a Saturday. Their lunch special runs until 3:00 pm. By the time we perused the menu it was after 3:00. I asked if the lunch special was still available and was told yes. What a pleasant surprise! Most places cut you off the minute the time period expires. There was... More

I've been here many, many times for the food, beer, and music. It's laid back, fun, and I've always had great food. The proprietor is from Lake Charles, LA and he does Cajun food right. You're likely to happen upon good music most nights f the week. It's worth the trip down Brodie for a cold Abita and a po'boy... More

The chaos of New Orleans and the weirdness of Austin with good solid Cajun cooking. What's not to like? The only downside is that it is located in an unlikely spot in a strip mall. Eat inside and get over it.
