Live on Appetizers

My husband and I had the oysters on chips appetizer and the Boudin. We both loved them. We carried our dessert Pistolettes out. Really good. They had a Cajun band tonight

It's a small tiny little place be prepared to wait but it's worth it. The food is good, the service is decent, I don't think I've ever been there and not seen the owner.

Curtis knows Cajun food, and Evangeline Cafe delivers it in a small, authentically decorated space. Free, live music most evenings. Staples include Boudin, Gumbo, Etouffee, fresh seafood and more. Blackboard specials. Beer & wine. Get there early or wait for a table.

Second time eating at Evangeline Cafe. My visits were 2 yrs. apart as I no longer live in Austin, but if I still lived here, I would have visited more often. The food is awesome. Waitstaff is great and on the spot with drink refills, just all around great service. My review would be 5 stars, but the new "gender... More

GATOR BITES.. you need to try them! This is tucked away in a strip mall...but is a real gem. I admit I am not an expert in southern cooking, but the items I tasted were delicious. Red beans, rice, po boy sandwiches... All were delicious. Service was very very good. Inside is noisy, so if that's a problem ask for... More

I love it all. The boudin, gumbo, red beans and rice, redfish, pistolettes...seriously it's all good. The waitstaff is always friendly and the Abita always goes down cold. The owner is from Lake Charles and the food tastes like it. This is the most genuine cajun food in the whole city. I can't be more clear about this...Evangeline is my... More

I try to eat here every time I visit Austin. We can't get food like this at home! The oysters contraband are worth every penny, but I usually stick to the oyster Po Boy or lunch basket unless there are others with whom I can share the rich and delicious appetizer. The interior is a little shabby, but I think... More

Looking for reasonably priced seafood during a trip to Austin. Neat little place and very crowded on a Tuesday night. The food was great, our waitress tried but she was over worked. Live band with Cajun music.

Evangeline Cafe is a cultural experience in Cajun food. The setting is bar like and very small in a strip mall...but don't let that deter you from trying it out. Their food is authentic and just like you would get in Baton Rouge or the Big Easy. I enjoyed the red beans and rice and the favorable cajun fried shrimp.... More

This was my first visit to Evangeline but not the last. This is a hidden gem in a strip mall. When you step inside you're transformed to the bayou. The decor is very Cajun. The staff is friendly. I ordered frog legs for an appetizer and jambalaya with potato salad for my entree. The frog legs were delicious! The jambalaya... More
