Got there before they opened and they are sticklers for not opening even 1 minute early. Food was good (had country fried chicken with corn and jambalaya), but the service was slower than I like (think drinks needing filled).

Great service for great comfort food-you can choose how healthy you want to be. The vegetable side selection satisfies any food craving you are having from healthy veg to mac & cheese. The one south of downtown has great outdoor music and worth visiting even if you just a drink [or two].

Threadgill's is a must for your upcoming Austin trip. They serve excellent comfort food and have some salad choices as well. The only problem we had was the loud restaurant made it difficult to talk to people at the table.

This place was pretty good but kind of average. It being my first time in Texas, I was told I had to try chicken fried steak. Maybe I'm just not used to that kind of stuff, but it was kind of dry and didn't have that much flavor! Let me just say though, that bread shaped like a muffin... so... More

Never had a bad meal here. We go back often because the vegetables are wonderful: San Antonio Squash, fried okra, tomato-cucumber salad, black eyed peas, and side dishes. The Live Gospel music on Sunday is a fun addition to the downhome meals. They have started a buffet on Sundays, but skip it. Order off the menu for a better meal.

There are only a couple of places in town I go to for Chicken Fried Steak, but this is one. It's not THE best, but it's up there. When you add in the red beans and rice, and the mashed potatoes... you got yourself a meal! This place is also a piece of Austin history. Wander about the place, soak... More

I had not been to Austin in several years although I used to be a frequent visitor. Much has changed since my last visit, but thankfully Threadgill's is still great. The best Teaxs home cooking and always great service at very reasonable prices. Although I am not a vegetarian, I love there five serving vegetable plate. There are so many... More

If you like bland food -- eat at Threadgill's, you'll love it. The food has no taste and the ambiance needs a refurbishing.

I really like Threadgill's for the "veggies." You can get seconds and the have a good variety. Both locations have their own personalities.
