We found this place just around the corner from our hotel. We ate there twice, it was so good and wanted to try other options on the menu. A great list of entrees with an extensive list of country vegetables. You can also get just vegetables!! The deserts were to die for. They have entertainment inside and outside on occasion.... More

My wife and I stopped by Threadgill's for lunch on a recent weekend trip to Austin. The restaurant's downtown location was great for us since we were attending an event at the Palmer Events Center. They have on-site parking, which is a plus when so many downtown restaurants only have street parking. The restaurant has a large menu that offers... More

Went there with some colleagues from a business meeting. The person who put us on to it was a local. Very spacious place. the food was very reasonably priced and was very good. Some nice down home selections. service was a bit slow and the place wasn't that crowded since we went early evening on a Sunday. I would highly... More

We had high hopes for this restaurant. It started off great with a delicious salad and some good cornbread and rolls. It went downhill from there. The catfish was huge but had considerable fat in the filet. It's breading was heavy and distracted from the fish. The chicken fried steak was acceptable but nothing to write home about. If this... Very good! Lots of love and music. And some good music and food to eat before you walk over to see the bats. I suggest the chicken fried steak and collard greens!

Unfortunately Threadgill's is not maintaining the pace. In place for over 30 years and with a barnyard attached for live music, the atmosphere and service are still there but the food is slipping. The iconic country fried steak (advertised as angus) was disappointing - breading did not adhere to the meat and parts of the steak were tough. Ok, ok,... More

I really enjoyed my visit to Threadgill's. The food was excellent; the service was terrific. The sides are great, and you can get seconds of whichever sides you order.

We were just driving around the river area of Austin and happened to come up on Threadgill's. We decided to give it a try, and were glad we did. It is a neat restaurant and place for outdoor concerts. The food is "home style cooking," and really good. I had not heard of the place until we drove past it.... More

Whenever I have friends who want to visit Austin or stay over at my house, I take them to Threadgills. This is the most decidedly Austin restaurant I know of. Janis Joplin got her start here. It's home style cooking, with an Austin culture. And yes, the Austin bats are within walking distance--another trademark of Austin. Threadgills + the bats... More
