Comfort food followed by some great music. Who could ask for more. Chicken fried steaks with gravy and mashed potatoes. Not exactly haute cuisine. But, definately the stuff that makes life worth living. Then, mosey outside and listen to some really good music. That's Austin. That's the stuff that makes for great memories.

As a local I am getting a little tired of the same old menu. However this is still a great place to bring out of town visitors. The staff is incredible and the atmosphere is fun. I only wish there was live music more than only a few times a week.

We had a great meal (SO. MUCH. FOOD!). Authentic home-cooked food and loved the ambiance and all the cool old signs and knick knacks around the restaurant. Great, friendly service!

I was in Austin for a conference, and a small group decided to meet at Threadgills for lunch. The choices are good, but the food is just okay. I ordered fried catfish; the coating was tasteless and unseasoned, while the thin strip of fish inside was too hot to eat. Sides were actually quite good--cheesy grits (can't get 'em at... More

Nice place. I got a giant chicken fried steak that was huge. I couldn't stop eating it as it was so tasty. Super friendly staff.

I stumbled across Threadgill's while in Austin for the the F1 Grand Prix - my hotel was nearby, and the music sounded good (it was Deadeye, I later discovered). Despite being a Saturday night, I was seated right away - opposite a big painting of all the artistes that had played there - it is quite an impressive list. The... More

Had the famous chicken fried steak. It was similar to a large version of what you got in the high school cafeteria. Definitely tough and cold. I used to go to the Lamar location and this is certainly not the same food.

Threadgill's Riverside Drive is a combination diner, meat 'n three, roadhouse, with a 10% touch of honky tonk with beer (in a good way). This is also a music venue -- think Willie Nelson, Austin City Limits, & gospel on Sunday! Great menu of home cooking with some good looking semi-seafood items. Large selections of side dishes & vegetables. Our... More

We had chosen Threadgills based upon a review of its menu that looked promising. The atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting. But the food was not. The chicken fried steak was a huge disappointment. While it was "huge", the steak was thin and dry with an overwhelming amount of breading and minimal amount of gravy. The collard greens were undercooked.... More

Squash, spinach, all kinds of beans!!! Heaven!!! Oh yeah and fresh made salad dressings...try the jalapeno honey mustard. A lot of these veggies and casseroles are almost as good as what my grandmother use to make and she had a restaurant in a small town in GA. Daily specials are great and this location has live music several nights a... More
