Description: We are proud to announce... Chef Tyson Cole, winner of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest--Thank you Uchi and Uchiko family and friends for your support! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Uchi showcases the culinary talents of executive chef and sushi master Tyson Cole, winner of the "best new chef in America 2005" by Food and Wine magazine. His exciting menu expands on the Japanese tradition with new flavors and influences. Uchi means "house," and like many sushi bars in Japan, Uchi is located in a refurbished old home. Its vibrant design adds a fresh dimension to the neighborhood and has been warmly received by Austin's diverse dining crowd. Uchi accepts a very limited number of reservations and reserves the majority of the dining room for walk-in availability. Most seating is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. All parties must be complete before being seated.

My husband and I love Uchi. We enjoy trying new things and always ask our server what his/her favorite dish is and order it. It's a great way to try new things off the menu that you might not normally order. We went this past week for Uchi's 10th birthday celebration because they had a special tasting menu with classic... Be aware that this not your Texas barbecue! Can't say enough POSITIVES about the experience. This WAS a truly dining EXPERIENCE. For those of you searching for a culinary experience like no other in Austin, look no further than Uchi. My daughter (age 26) and I went for Mother's Day this year. The menu consists of hot (cooked) and cool... More

Uchi is good. It's fine. It's nice to have someone who knows the menu so well as your server. The fish tastes fresh, the dishes well seasoned but I expect that at a place I am dining! Otherwise I as soon eat at home. It's an upper scale sushi joint and for that, it is overpriced and pretentious. You have... More

This is as good as it gets for sushi! Most delicious food! Quaint atmosphere. I recommend it for a date night or business lunch/dinner. Expect to pay top dollar -$$$$ - but it's worth every penny!

We have eaten at this restaurant several times. Service is always first rate. Food fresh and outstanding. My wife and I enjoy simply eating appetizer after appetizer until we are full. I particularly like the sashimi and the guidance you can always get from a knowledgeable waitress when you need it. The crème caramel deserts are a fine way to... More

I've eaten here multiple times over the past years and never have been disappointed. I lived 3 years in Japan, and while, this isn't "traditional" food (nor is it supposed to be), it's very creative, flavorful, and fresh. The happy hours are good deals on the appetizers. We went this past month for my husband's birthday and got the 10-course... More

We went here for a lovely meal with friends. We have all traveled to Japan and have high standards for sushi. We were not disappointed! The service was awesome--try to get there for at least part of happy hour. We had sashimi and rolls. The unagi (freshwater eel) was super. They are quite busy and it can be loud--but worth... More

Ahhhh, Uchi, how I love thee. I have not had a bad dish yet. The food is amazing from the brussel sprouts to the uchiviche. The age dofu I will pass on next time, (had better elsewhere) but the rest was incredible and awesome as always! I must say the service at the Houston location was so much better. The... More

Chef Tyson Cole became famous when he won Best Chef of the Southwest Region from the James Beard Foundation. He also won Best Japanese, and Best Sushi among a slew of other awards in a recent restaurant poll. This is simply the best sushi in Texas. I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough.
