Three of us went to Threadgill's, just after 1 p. m, Wednesday, July 9. We were politely seated, had drinks brought, ordered: one Wednesday special, one patty melt, one popcorn shrimp. Sounds simple. There were only a few customers in our area. We waited almost an hour for our meal, although waitperson assured us several times that our order was... More

Enjoyed my breakfast at Threadgill's and especially liked the atmosphere. Lots of Janis Joplin memorabilia / photos etc. Pretty good choice of food and we were helped along by a live band Certainbly worth a visit if you are in that part of Austin.

Used to be a great place to eat but it has gone downhill big time. Vegetable plates are now poorly prepared as are the daily specials. The place is trying to live on its past reputation. Kenneth Threadgill is turning over in his grave.

First, the restaurant is excellent for home cooking comfort food. Atmosphere is music based, laid back and comfortable. Staff attentive, well tattooed, smart. Outdoor music venue is very good, stage and mixing boards professional, sound great.

Whilst arranging a group dinner to meet friends, during a quick visit to Austin, it was suggested to eat here. Although I'm familiar with Janis Joplin, and that era of music, I'm not exactly a fan, but I have to admit that it was a fun night out - regardless of the history of the location or not. We had... Came here after watching the bats fly from congress bridge. The place is huge and we're seated immediately. The food was very good and waitstaff very friendly.

Threadgills on Lamar is a long established Austin landmark. Threadgills was initially a gas station/beer joint frequented by the up and coming musicians of the time including Willie Nelson and Janice Joplin. Opened as a restaurant in 1981, Threadgills offers what we in Texas consider a style of food essential to our peace of mind. Traditional southern fare: Chicken fried... More

Went during lunch time. Walked right in and sat down. Had the Black and Blue Salad. Steak on the salad was soooo tender and good. Very filling! Reasonably priced. Excellent service. Will go there again. Parking lot is a little crowded. Others in our group got this huge chicken fried steak. It looked awesome and they scarfed it down so... More

Arrived here late on a Sunday evening with the place pretty much to ourselves-a rarity for Threadgill's. Received good service by Carlson, a heavily bearded waiter that like to dawdle in a friendly kind of way. The special Thanksgiving in June Special was pretty good for being off-season. Lots of cornbread stuffing, extra cranberry sauce, fair amount of turkey, lumpy... More
