Great service. Fried oysters are really good. I am happy to splurge on the all fried lunch once in a while.

Threadgills appears to be the remnant of the Armadillo World Headquarters (look it up on Google) and is a value priced restaurant/bar that serves up good food and great smiley service in SOCO (Austin), Tx. We went to the Sunday buffet brunch which included a bluesy gospel show performed by Bells of Glory (EXCELLENT). In a world of high prices... More

Over fried everything. Brunch buffet sad. Good music. Find another music brunch. Visiting Austin, hoped for more authentic experience. More of a tourist attraction

There is nothing fancy here but everything is well made. I have been going her for years and have never had a complaint. Threadgills has a wide variety of vegetables. some are made with meat so not all are vegetarian but all are marked. I love the Pecan crusted chicken.. Fridays has King Ranch Chicken as a special. All the... More

The danger of hearing that a place is a "must visit" is that I have very high expectations. Food, service and value were average at best. If we had been there at a time there was live music I am sure it would have improved the experience but as it stands I can say I have been there and will... More

Glenda, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. While a poor review isn't what we normally receive, the occasional one helps us to focus on what we do best. We have become a "must-visit"because we are quintessential Austin and we have been keeping folks happy for many, many years. We hope you'll come back and... More

Thread gills diverse and creative menu accommodates vegetarians without giving up the taste and richness that characterizes southern food. The Hush Puppies are a must, and the garlic cheese grits are tasty comfort food. Although the presentation could use a bit more attention, everything tastes good. For those of you who eat fish, try the Blackened Catfish Po Boy. If... More

I always try to stop at Threadgill's whenever I'm in Austin. It's an old converted gas station on north Lamar Blvd. I love the atmosphere and the friendly service. Their chicken-fried steak is the best I've had. They have an unending list of vegetables and sides for any taste. You can even order an all-vegetable plate if you're a vegan.... More

I grew up in the south but I did not really care for Threadgills. I didn't expect the beans to be as mushy and the white rolls were tasteless. But the corn muffins were very good. And the Mac n cheese was made with white cheese and looked like the kind you would get at a grocery store. The chicken... More

We got there early evening around 5 pm so had no problem getting a table. By the time we left, about 1 hour later, the place was packed an lots of people waiting. Overall good food, staff seemed to be short handed and somewhat forgetful, probably due to the holiday rush. This restaurant has been an Austin hangout for many... More
