You know what is wrong with this place?

NOTHING! It is a great place to eat, hang out with friends, and have an al around good time. I take folks from all over the US to this joint for what I feel to be a fair representation of the "Austin Experience" - real deal food made by real-deal folks!

This place runs on a reputation from long-ago that is no longer valid. Quality and service have sunk to an all-time low. Management seems both untrained and unconcerned with quality, and that reflects in the performance of the public-facing staff. Kitchen talent has moved on and is replaced by amateur-looking folks who cannot recreate the great taste this place once... More

We came at least twice a week - No more. I came under duress this time as our last visit was so awful, only to have this one make the last not so bad. Previous visit, waited for over 20 minutes for someone to ask our drink order, then to wait even longer to get our drinks - forget about... More

This is not the same place that I visited 25 years ago. The chicken fried steak tasted like it was leftover from lunch. The mashed potatoes seemed be freshly cooked . The special, chicken and dumplings, was above average.

The wait staff was polite and made sure that you had everything you wanted. Also you get refills on veggies - most places don't do that. Will have to go there again when I go back to Austin.

On a June morning recently, the buffet breakfast opened at 10, band played at 11. There was plenty of room indoors near the stage or farther back, the banjo player was outstanding, the music was great, and you could bring the whole family or just go solo. Don't dress up, just have an omelet made for you or choose from... More

When I attended the University of Texas, my friends and I would often visit the Armadillo World Headquarters to hear incredible music. Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen and so many others played here. Now that the 'Dillo is gone, Threadgill's has taken its place. As a tribute to the late great Kenneth Threadgill, the restaurant/honky tonk is a flavorful... More

Was on Lamar the other day and past the point of hunger, but wanted to eat healthy. We've had good experiences with the Threadgill's downtown, so stopped in for a quick bite. They've redone the Lamar location. It's nicely remodelled. Lots of Janice Joplin pictures mounted on the wall, almost to the point of creepy. Like it's a shrine for... More

We met family here and loved it. Our flight was delayed so they had been seated for awhile. Once we arrived the waitress promptly took our orders. Four of us got the vegetable plate and one the fried catfish. We all raved about the food. Absolutely loved it. We lingered after our meal catching up and never felt we were... More

This is the kind of place that makes Austin famous - energetic yet laid back, with an air of 'I'm gonna do it my way' sort of place. Clearly a historical establishment for the city, with lots of history on the walls (Janice Joplin seemed to figure prominently). Food was good, service was good, environment was great.
