Great food. Comfort food like meatloaf and chicken fried steak. Atmosphere is cool if you are a music lover. Great service

Lots of great music related pictures decorate the place. Staff were very friendly and fast. Wide variety of southern cooking dishes. The stuffed jalapeños tasted like they came right out of the SAMs box. The dinner servings were large. I got the 5 veggie plate. Caesar salad and mashed potatoes were good, black eye peas not seasoned, fried okra tasted... More

Good southern food at Threadgills. This is the place Janis Joplin had her start! Their specialty is chicken fried steak although it seemed a bit dry and for us the chicken fried pork chop was much better. Wish they added more gravy, but can always ask the waitress I guess. Great selection of side dishes including fried okra (delicious), mac... More

My husband and I eagerly went to Threadgills after hearing a lot of positive things about this place. We were definitely disappointed. The two good things: there was no wait, and the margaritas. The margaritas were good and strong. That's where the positive ends. The food was just bad. My husband who can eat just about anything, hardly touched his... More

The food was not that good. I had pecan crusted chicken breast with collards and mashed potato and gravy. My friend had the vegetables: salad, grits, butter beans and something else. The portions were plentiful. The grits were the only thing that looked good. Our waiter was charming and attractive but something was off about him. Our coffee arrived cold.... More

Went for Sunday lunch, had the special, Turkey and dressing. Turkey was nice and juicy, sides were excellent. Vegan choices are available. Service was excellent.

Yes, they serve good chicken fried steak and other Austin traditions, but they've added pecan-crusted chicken (delicious), and other interesting choices. Friendly service, moderate prices, and seconds on vegetables (including some great soups) make Threadgills a continuing favorite.

Dined at Threadgills on July 2, 2014, due to it's close location to the Hyatt downtown Austin. I had dined at Jack Allen's Kitchen for lunch. I had the chicken fried chicken for dinner again. At first I liked the chicken, but as it cooled off, the "too much crust" began to become bothersome. I did like the "white gravy"... More

The chicken fried steak and prickly pear margarita was amazing! I just wished I'd been able to enjoy the music from outside..inside. Will definitely visit again.

Great piece of Austin music history. Janis Joplin performed here early in her career. You can read about her & others who performed here in displays by the entrance. Funky Austin diner décor. Excellent, friendly service. There is a live-music Bluegrass Brunch on Sundays which is great fun. Try to make a reservation, though, as it is always popular. Most... More
