Good food, weird setting.

We had dinner at the 1886 cafe & bakery. It's more like a restaurant in a casual fine dining setting. Full table service with attentive staff. The food was really good and they had healthy options on the menu. Not just wings, burgers and fries but they had those too. I had the high county tots they... read more

We've been going to this restaurant occasionally for 10 years. The desserts are high quality and very tasty. The quality of the ingredients in the meals is also very high. However, the quality of preparation of the meals seems to have become almost an afterthought and the portions of the meals are now too small given the prices on the menu.... More

Last breakfast in Austin and what a breakfast. We had to wait a minute or two to be seated but that was the only glitch. Our server, Emma, was quick to deliver an espresso for me and a decaffeinated cappuccino for my partner. We both had the Brazos Rancheros (Boring I know, but you try getting Huevos Rancheros in Austin;... More

Great place to grab breakfast, they carry the usual stuff, we had cream cheese with lox and capers, french toast powered sugar with strawberries, hot chocolate, coffee, oj and much more. The building is beautiful, the service was great and it was a bustling cafe. Food was great.

We were disappointed that at 7 PM they were already out of their signature Fried Chicken but our server Aaron was helpful with making other suggestions. The White Bean and Kale soup was excellent as was the burger. One member of our party ordered the Redfish which was described as blackened. She asked for it broiled as she is allergic... More

We came here from the Intercontinental every day for breakfast, as it's open early. The hotel is from 1886 (could you guess?) and has high ceilings with tin pressed plate. Breakfast is great--homemade jams, pastries and good breads (unlike the Intercontinental, whose breakfast pastries seem like they were just unwrapped from cellophane). Nice staff. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed breakfast with the family. Everyone really liked everything. The waffles, French toast and hueves rancheros were really good and was the latte. Service was quick and very resonably priced

Located in the Driskill Hotel, the 1886 Cafe is very picturesque and lovely. The food however, is standard breakfast fare - nothing to write home about although I did appreciate the egg white omelet.

I spotted this place as I was walking down the street and was intrigued. It is beautiful. It has an interesting pastry selection. I went for the Hazelnut Torte. I should note that I'm a huge chocolate and pastry connoisseur and have been to some of the best places in Europe so perhaps my standards are a bit high. Compared... More

After our initial plans fell through, we stumbled upon the 1886 Cafe & Bakery. It's in a gorgeous old hotel filled with lovely period details which made the short wait (10 minutes on a Sunday at brunch time) quite pleasant. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and very tasty. Everyone was thrilled with their choices. I would definitely go here... More
