Wish I Had Been a Member of the Local Beer Club

I have eaten breakfast here many times (always good) and lunch a few times, but never dinner. My extended family and I decided to go one evening recently. Unfortunately we chose a night in which a beer club was having a tasting event and they took over the cafe. We were placed in the lobby which is... read more

me and the gf came here mainly to view the hotel but also to get a short respite from the 100 degree heat. We had juice, chocolate cake and a few cookies from the bakery as we sat. Everyone there was having coffee and banana splits or mix drinks. Very nice upscale ambience. I thought we wouldn't fit a dress... More

We stopped here for a light lunch. The water was as tepid as the soup and the service was disappointing. Certainly not good value.

Very good breakfast option in a beautiful historic building. I got the hangover omelet and it was very good. My coworkers loved the eggs Benedict.

We visited for breakfast and the atmosphere is wonderful. Our waitress was attentive but not really friendly. We had the bread pudding french toast (delic) and classic breakfast. My eggs were WAY overcooked but they brought me another right away which were good. I asked for plain iced tea and got flavored tea, yuck. Nothing horrible, but not 5star either.

I recently met a business colleague for breakfast at the 1886 Cafe in the Driskill Hotel. It had been several years since I had eaten there. I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful breakfast menu with lots of interesting and delicious egg dishes. My guest was a high tech exec from the Bay area and he even commented on the... More

My daughter and I had brunch here this morning. the food was really great, and plus you can read the NYTimes (often difficult to find in TX) while you're eating. Everything was delicious (scrambled eggs, bacon, country potatoes, cranberry juice, cinnamon roll) I especially liked the cinnamon roll (possibly the best one I've ever had) although it was so big... Just got into town for the first time in Austin. Ended up here and had a delicious sandwich and burger. Food was delicious and the centuries old motif made it interesting to dine. Walk around the lobby of Driscoll Hotel , the oldest in Texas

After blowing off long Sunday brunch lines elsewhere, we were seated rather quickly at 1886. Wife enjoyed her locally made hot tea that had a ripe peach aroma. Our meals were good but nothing that I would rant or rave about. Hangover omelet was alright but something tells me the burger version would be better. If you opt not to... More
