Good breakfast spot

My husband and I ate here on a recent vacation to Austin. During the week breakfast downtown is pretty limited to hotel restaurants and Starbucks. We split the Paris Texas Benedict and both really enjoyed it. It was a large portion, so very easy to split. The historic atmosphere of the Driskill... read more

I spent a decade of my life in Europe. And sure, Paris has great croissants. Probably the best. But that type of dough is used in Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria... you can find it in most European cultures. And now, I discovered, in Austin, Texas. Seriously that was one of the best croissants I've ever had in the USA.... More

We dined at this cafe & bakery twice during our stay at The Driskill! Wish we would have discovered it earlier during all of our trips to Austin. Great brunch menu from several breakfast items to salads to sandwiches ... and of course several freshly baked items to choose from at the bakery bar! We had the Austin American Breakfast... More

If you are in the area you must stop and eat here. They have a great menu and make their own baked goods on site. Katrina Reddell is the manager and what a great employee she is. They are very lucky to have her on staff. She was so helpful

We stayed at the Driskill so we ate here everyday for breakfast. The food was all good no matter what we ordered. The staff was fantastic and courteous. The portions were Texas size and the cinnamon roll is unforgettable. I loved the old look and style of the bakery and the glass window into the bakers was a wonderful thing... More

My family ate dinner while we were staying at the Driskill. We had the fried chicken which they said was one of their specialties. It was really good. Service was a little slow even though there were only about three people eating at the time we were there.

Every year when we visit Austin, we make a pilgrimage to the Driskill to have Brunch at the 1886 cafe. This year we were lucky enough to get to watch the pasty chef working on a Blue Bell Half Gallon cake. Food is terrific, baked goods are amazing and the setting is fantastic.

the main attraction is the hotel. very nice staff, halls, furnishings. cafe is cold ( no way to cut a/c ??) but staff nice we did 4 appitizers at $ 6 .00 each: the hill country trio were poor,no flavor. the BLT crostini was both unusual and quite flavorful. the special "cheese soup" was also excellent. the white bean/kale soup... Except for my husband, who had runny eggs, the rest of us loved our meals - bread pudding French toast, eggs Benedict and Croque Madame were all delicious. The waitress was a bit slow with coffee refills and had to be reminded to bring juice, but for just the historic value of the location, at the Driskill, it was worth... More
