Shady Grove is located in the heart of 78704 in Austin, TX. Nestled under the shade of a tall pecan grove, we have been serving up Austin-inspired home cooking, cocktails, sunshine and smiles since 1992. In the months of April through September, Shady Grove hosts KGSR's Unplugged at The Grove, one of Austin's longest running free live music series, every Thursday night at 8pm.

Relaxin' Outside

I have been here on a number of occasions and it is still one of the most favorite to sit outside when the weather is fine and enjoy eats and drinks with friends.

Have now eaten here twice and enjoyed it both times. Has a nice informal atmosphere with friendly staff. A favorite was their chili which I combined with an order of their black eyes peas.

Came across this place as I was walking back from having lunch at Chuy's. I wish I wasn't so full from that as I really would have loved to lunch here as well. The place stands out from all the quirky signs and sculptures outside (see some of my photos) The entrance to the bar/restaurant doesn't look anything special, in... More

We visited this place last night. It was a beautiful evening so we enjoyed a table for 6 of us on the patio. Quick and attentive service, yummy and diverse menu (I went with the pulled pork nachos) and a great jalapeño infused margarita (on rocks served in cocktail shaker and a great deal for amount served.

After we ate, our deadpan waitress said, "I should have told you that when I tried something earlier today, I thought the peppers were especially spicy." We enjoyed the tamale cakes, chicken tacos, catfish, and meatloaf.

Very good Austin, Texas meal. Delicious "Trucker's Meatloaf" with Mashed Potatoes and Black Bean Soup. Top that off with an old fashioned jukebox, open 24/7, decent on-site parking, and large outside dining patio.

A member of our party used to live in Austin and took us here. Living in Colorado, we're used to funky places with incongruous retro furnishings, and this was really no different. To us, it appeared that the funk was the main draw. The food was pretty average and unremarkable, and it seemed very touristy--not really where you expect repeat... More

We happened to arrive just at the right time. Only a 10 minute wait which I hear is unusual. While waiting outside, our drink orders were promptly taken. We moved to a nice table in the garden where Jon took great care of us. I ordered the Southwest Caesar salad with Chicken and ate every bite of the generous portion.... More

We drove by a string of restaurants while visiting tourist attractions in the area, and my wife suggested we go back for dinner. We selected the Shady Grove based on TripAdvisor (and one of your competitors) reviews. Plus it was a beautiful December evening and they had lots of outdoor seating. I have been traveling to Austin for years and... More
