A passion for friendship, food and wine fed the genesis of Jeffrey's. It continues to endure today. The restaurant first took shape in 1975 when Jeffrey Weinberger and Ron and Peggy Weiss, friends from student days at the University of Texas, pooled their interests, talents, and enthusiasm with three other pals to open an intimate neighborhood bistro in Austin, such as they had encountered in their travels. They were part of the first wave of new American cuisine, and over the years they made their mark with an original flair that is unmistakably Jeffrey's alone. Chef Deegan McClung is known for accenting regional flavors and ingredients with European recipes and techniques in order to create a unique cosmopolitan style.

Love Forty on the service game

The menu choices are intriguing and seem to offer unusual flavour combinations. My dining companions were all enthusiastic about their choices (Wreck fish; lamb; and appetizers of fried oysters, soufflé and pate were all very good). I booked a table for 4, I then had to cancel with more than 24 hr notice and was still charged $25 per person = $100. No flexibility, no way to treat a customer. Who do they think they are?

Jeffrey's is more formal than a typical Austin restaurant but excellent in every way.My wife thought her Caesar salad exceptional and my Vitello tonnato also very good.Crab cakes and grouper also delicious.Menu accommodates vegetarians, good wine list and very professional but not overly stuffy service.Prices on high side but good value given that high standards attained.

This is a wonderful special occasion restaurant. The kobe beef steaks are fantastic, as is the fois gras and beef tartare. The wines are a little overpriced, but the food is perfect.

Josephine House is the little sister to the much more established Jeffrey's next door. But as we discover on a recent visit for a birthday celebration with friends, there is no shame in being a little sister. The Josephine house is a little more casual then Jeffery's which fits in nicely with the Austin lifestyle and the overall character on... More

Lets start with the bad news- it is possible to drop major money at Jeffrey's. if you're wanting a quiet and unhurried meal without the middle class disrupting your vision(except for the special occasion celebrator like me), you're in the right place. The good news is that if you want food you'll be talking about for days, with attentive service... More

In terms of an Austin atmosphere, this isn't hipsters, with short brim hats and such. It's the upscale version of Austin so to speak. It's not full of hipsters, but you will see the hip Austin professional dinning at Jeffrey's or hanging out enjoying cocktails. The staff is professional, and they pay attention to style, manners, and service. It's very... More

This place always has a happening bar, so since it was F1 Sunday, I called to make a 6:00 reservation. I did not expect to be told all tables were reserved. We went anyway expecting to sit in the restaurant. When we arrived, I did not expect the valets to be dressed in a pink sear sucker shorts outfit. Nor... More

They have a beverage cart that comes by and makes martini's or old fashioned tableside. Excellent steak, pomme puree, brussel sprouts, and a wonderful chocolate soufflé for dessert.

I used to go to Jeffrey's back in the early '80s. When I called the concierge at our hotel I asked if Jefffrey's was still one of the restaurants to visit. Yes, yes, it is. The food was outstanding. My pan fried grouper over clam chowder with gnocchi was fabulous. My husband and our friend had the seafood risotto and... More
