Best Bar-B-Q ever

We had by far the best Bar-B-Q we've ever had last night at Freedmans. We understand that Franklins is king, but we didn't have the time to wait, and were able to be seated quickly at Freedmans and had a great meal, with the best brisket and sausage we've ever had. I'm looking forward to finding... read more

This is a must when visiting Austin. I had the best BBQ experience in a long time. Great tasty food, large portions and a friendly atmosphere.

Really great BBQ and no wait! Need I say more? Okay there was a rude bartender who snapped at us for misquoting a price for their whiskey of the day. We just ignored him and enjoyed our time as though he didn't exist.

We really liked Freedman's, which is situated right near the UT campus. Wanted to go to Franklin's but didn't want to wait two hours for BBQ, and Freedman's was recommended as a viable alternative for great BBQ. Loved the ribs, with rubbed peppercorns in the outside, and the brisket, tender and succulent. And the BBQ sauce should be bottled and... More

Dare I say it, the brisket is pretty much Franklin's quality in terms of flavor. Shredded pork and pork ribs delicious too. The grilled slaw is a winner, but $15 for quart that wasn't really packed in very tightly, left me feeling like I overpaid. I really don't see how anyone can question the excellent food. Definitely at the top... More

An amazing taste of Austin with great service and brave menu in a historic building. Not sure what else you can ask for. The brisket was amazing but the menu offers very creative takes on BBQ -- you can't go wrong here.

The brisket is amazing! Watch out all the BBQ kings in Austin, Freedmen's is coming for you! Everyone in our group had the lunchbox special and absolutely loved it! Pulled pork, brisket and sausage were to die for! I wasn't super fond of the slaw, but my husband liked it. I can't wait to go back!!

We met 5 couples for a late birthday lunch. We sat on the patio and had good service. We ordered the Holy Trinity to split and a side of smoked cabbage slaw. This plate came with 2 smoked pork ribs, a hunk of fatty brisket and 2 three inch pieces of very dry, smoked sausage. Also on the plate were... More

6 of us went to freedman's on a humid sticky day. we sat outside (seated promptly) and the waitstaff immediately brought out nice icy cold water, and the drinks arrive quickly thereafter. the waitstaff helped us order (quantities for 6). had the roasted beets, potato salad, slaw, ribs, pork belly, pulled pork (they were out of brisket). we ordered about... My wife and I shared the Holy Trinity and one extra sausage... The total cost for the food was $21 and we were stuffed!! Food prices in Austin vary wildly and this was one spot for awesome bbq and very reasonable prices. The drinks are creative but more in line with Austin cocktail pricing ($10ish each). Since we like cocktails,... More
