Prepare to indulge in a creative 13-course eating extravaganza! This smallish restaurant with tall communal tables packs a punch when it comes to creative dining. Each course was perfectly timed and the freshness and quality of the food was outstanding. The wine list was also really impressive and the staff were friendly and accommodating. My only suggestion is that the... More

My sister and I were visiting Austin on vacation and decided to splurge on dinner at Barley Swine - it was one of the highlights of our trip! It's a leisurely dining experience comprised of 13 small courses served over about a 2 1/2 hour period. We got an early reservation and paired the courses with alcohol (champagne, wine and... More

This place is fantastic! They give the option for an extra charge to serve each course with a drink. Unlike most tasting menus, Barley Swine will pair other drinks like local beers and cocktails, other than just the standard wine, which is also great. Maybe one of the best meals of my life!

We loved it. Both of our birthdays are in early May so we go out for a big dinner each year at that time. Last year at this time I was reviewing our meal at Eleven Madison Park -- a many hundreds of dollar extravaganza of excess and pretension. Against my better judgement I booked yet another preset mystery meal.... More

I had dinner at Barley Swine the other week, and have to say that it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant is very small, so it's going to feel pretty intimate: my date and I wound up sharing a large table with another couple. This wasn't a big deal, but if it is something that bothers you I believe that... More

My husband and I went for dinner and had the 13 courses. The flavors were some of the most unique combinations we've had and every bite was divine. The atmosphere was very nice and intimate. It's a small place and you definitely need reservations any night of the week. Despite the wonderful experience, I still don't like the idea of... More

Wife was not impressed with my selection pre dinner. She kept fighting the foodie in me. After she arrived she was delightfully surprised. Vibe was great and atmosphere was inviting. We did the 13 course meal with wine/beer pairing. All was Zen and good with the world on the way they bounced back and forth on the menu. If I... More

The first time I ever went to Barley Swine (at the request of my omnivore husband), I admit I was underwhelmed. I saw "seared pig face" on the menu, and as I am a vegetarian, it was kind of over for me at that point. But that was a few years ago, and boy are things different now! We've probably... More

We really loved this tasting menu and atmosphere of this restaurant. Each course seemed better than the last. It is definitely some adventurous flavors and food combinations. Even the least adventurous in our group tried every dish and was pleasantly surprised. I cannot begin to name a favorite dish. We did the wine/beer pairings with our meal and I am... More

This restaurant needs to rethink its culinary strategy. OK -- we get the small bites concept. If you spend 5 nights in Austin dining out you can visit 5 eateries with the same/similar concept and get a good sense of how various restauranteurs approach this fun way to eat. But it has to be more than fun. A 12 course Prix-fix... More
