Southern Soul

PROS: 1. Favorite of locals. GM plant is across the street. 2. Very good, traditional, southern home cooking. 3. Food is inexpensive – quantities large – good value for the money. CONS: 1. In a mini strip center, off the beaten track – sort of a hole-in-the-wall. 2. No atmosphere inside... read more

I went in ready for gumbo... then found out they only do gumbo on Tuesdays and Thursdays. How about a po'boy? No, we only do po'boys on Saturday. They do have great red beans, but chicken is average. Didn't notice any excitement in anyone behind the counter... Not sure they wanted to be there either.

This is down home cooking cajun style. Three of us dined. Two had the chicken fried steak and I had the seafood gumbo. The seafood gumbo had a kick to it and it was loaded with shrimp, crayfish and crab, served with rice and a cornbread muffin. My two partners could not finish their chicken it was so large. The... Deeply comforting soul food! Tasty chicken, etoufee is amazing! The smothered chop was fantastic, and the folks are as warm and welcoming as your favorite aunties and uncles!

We had lunch at Damian's and what a great meal. I love Cajun Food and try it where ever I can, they get it right at Damian's! As for the location and outside well it is in a older strip mall with a motorcycle repair shop...

I've driven down 360 thousands of times. Turned on Abrams hundreds of times. Never noticed this place. My loss. My son found Damian's on another website. Thought we'd give it a try. Unbelievable. Delicious. We went on a Friday when the special is smothered pork chops. So tender we didn't need the plastic knife. The plastic fork was sufficient. Smothered... More

The location is unassuming, but ideal when you realize the GM Assembly Plant is just across the highway. My wife and I have gone twice now and we both feel that this is authentic cajun style home cooking. Both times my wife had the Gumbo and added a side od Mac & Cheese. This is some of the best Mac... Somewhat of a hole in the wall place in a strip center with outstanding food. I had the seafood gumbo and it reminded me of meals I have eaten in New Orleans.

I found it on my I phone map. I ordered the fryed catfish with hush puppy's, mashed potatoes and green beans. The food was delishus. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is served on styrofoam plates, it's a very simple place but the food and the people are great. It's lunch only they close at 4:00.
