Kitschy, Over-The-Top, Texas Place for Steaks & Fun

This was our second trip to the Big Texan, and we might not have gone if we weren't with friends who had never been. I'm glad we gave it a second shot - the food was significantly better this time around. First time was afternoon, second time was a Thursday night. The crowds are a little crazy at... read more

We were expecting a tourist trap with mediocre food. Yes, you still get the cheesy touristy aspects but it adds to the charm. The food was fantastic. I ordered the 21 ounce Sirloin and it was perfect. We did get to witness someone attempt the 72 oz steak challenge, they lasted 28 minutes before throwing in the towel. All in... More

This is a must stop when traveling through Amarillo. They have great food and service, but an excellent gift shop, craft beer for the adults and carnival games for the kids. It would be a great place for everyone to get their bellies full and stretch their legs. Don't miss this stop.

We always stop at the Texan for a visit when traveling through. Sometimes we eat and other times we watch contestants. The meal is a little pricy but many enjoy it. We were not as impressed with the meal as we have been in prior visits. The atmosphere is still great and worth checking out. The gift shop has a... More

The many billboards along I-40 were not enough to convince us, but when we asked some locals for a recommedation, this is what they encouraged. We chose the pricey lunch menu, but the ribeye was worth it. Our waitress was not as helpful as we would have liked, but it didnt seem to be the norm.

This is my 4th visit here. My first was in 1999 as part of my travel all or Rte. 66 trip. It is as good as the hype surrounding the Big Texan. This trip I had the prime rib lunch. Service as quick. The prime rib was perfectly done medium rare and it melted in your mouth. Seriously, the beef... More

Easy to find off US40. Lots of gifts to shop for while waiting for a table. Large bar with many choices in beers. Did not have to wait long (15 minutes) to seat 2 of us. Many large groups and the table up front on a stage for those wanting to take on the 72 ounce steak challenge. There were... More

Be careful what you order. The portions are HUGE and I'm not just talking about the 72 ounce steak. I had the strip and the wife had the filet. Both were outstanding. We left carrying two "to go" boxes.

Our mouths watered for miles, and finally we pulled in. We always do the lunch menu. There are great choices and servings are ample. My favorite is the prime rib, always tender and oh so flavorful. But I have to confess, the homemade baked potato dressing is the star. I could bathe in the stuff. Besides the super food there... More

Stopped in after a long day in the car to try this place out. While I was sitting there three people tried the 72 oz challenge and failed. My steak was a 21 oz Ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. If you like good ole Texas steakhouses you need to stop here at least once.
