I've been wanting to eat at the Golden Light Cafe for a very long time and I must say that it did not disappoint. The cafe is quite small but it has a great vibe, booths, tables and a counter handle the seating duties. The food was great, I had a cheeseburger, it was every bit as good as I... More

This place was pretty awesome. The burgers were great and the atmosphere was what you'd expect from a place that's been frying up deliciousness for over half a century. You can SMELL the history! Tough to seat a party of more than 4 (we were 5) and the service was meh-- I expect a little more from a waitress than... More

We only did the cafe for a bite to eat. It is a greasy spoon, with character, it was late afternoon and half a dozen locals were in. We were made to feel welcome by the staff and the locals. We just had iced tea and a toastie each. We also ordered a small portion of chips between us. The... More

This old restaurant is often overlooked even by Route 66 enthusiasts. It is a bit rough around the edges but there is a true time capsule feel. What a delightful place to enjoy a buffalo burger!

We walked into the Golden Light Café to the sounds of Elvis on the juke box, local regulars hanging at the bar, Formica booths & tables and an eclectic mix of beer signs, hand painted murals, photos and neon signs on the walls...my kind of place! This place has been open since 1946 and claims to be the oldest restaurant... More

Very good food at a very good price in the oldest restaurant still operating on Route 66! This place is historic! We got a special map at the Visitor Center for Route 66 in Amarillo. We were so happy about the food that we went there again on the next day. The meat from the hamburgers is much healthier than... More

Oldest restaurant in Amarillo and located on Route 66. Got the Green Chili Cheeseburger and is was delicious. So were the fries! An old restaurant with character and charm!

My sister and I were doing Rt 66 and this restaurant was recommended in one of our guidebooks. As far as I could see there was only one waitress for the room and an outside eating area. She seemed very efficient and I think the kitchen was having a hard time keeping up. Anyway my green chili cheeseburger was excellent.... More

I have eaten here several times and have never had a bad anything, (or even a mediocre anything for that matter). It is all great and cooked the way it used to be cooked! DON'T EXPECT FAST FOOD HERE. It is cooked to perfection as it is ordered. Don't expect "health food" either, there are plenty of other places to... More
