Abuelo's - A Really Good Chain Restaurant

When traveling on our annual summer road-trip we try to avoid chain restaurants. Recently when stopping in Abilene for the night, the ideal of Mexican food sounded good. There was an Abuelo’s Mexican Food Restaurant near our hotel and while it is a Texas based chain, we had not previously dined in... read more

This was certainly one of the most beautifully designed Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. Don't judge by the outside shopping plaza look because the second you step inside the atmosphere takes over. Absolutely AMAZING decorations and environment. Friendly staff and even better food. I will be certain to make a trip here several times a month!! Keep it... More

My son just came back to the States from serving in the Air Force in the Middle East for a year. Before heading off to his next assignment in Europe, he requested dinner at one place: Abuelo's! I am sure he longed for their delicious food the whole time he was out of the States. We have never been disappointed... More

This place is a typical Tex-Mex restaurant. There is nothing really out of the ordinary about there food, in fact, there are many places Abilene there are many places with far better food. Where it really suffers is the atmosphere. Quite often it is too loud to carry on a casual conversation at your table. Not worth the hype, not... More

The first thing I noticed was the beautiful interior and the decor of the place. Clean, crisp and vibrant. The food was excellent too. I ordered one of the Grande meals and it was delicious. There were 4 of us in our group and well all got something different, every one of the meals were outstanding. There were 4 different... More

The atmosphere is beautiful and fun. The waiters are good and fun, too. The menu is varied and good tasting, although the food is not exceptional. We can count on a good experience when we go and many people consider it a favorite.

Love the menu and green enchiladas are amazing. Sangria swirls are best in town. Lots of seating, too.

In town for one night while traveling through. We hadn't been to an Abuelo's in several years, so we decided to give this one a try. We weren't disappointed. Very good food and service.

Waiting time for a table was just minutes. Chips were warm & crispy; salsa was disappointingly bland. If you ask, they'll bring hotter salsa. I did, they did, and it was only marginally spicier than the originally served sauce. I ordered the Del Rio: a tamale, a taco, and an enchilada with rice & refried beans. Good, but not excellent.... The food is excellent, well cooked and timely. Service is great, friendly staff. Our waitress insured that we had everything that we needed and checked on us often. Staff dressed professionally. The only reason that I didn't rate perfect because of the graphic statutes and creepy paintings. I should have called in the order and got it to go.
