Everything is delicious here. The atmosphere the staff the owner are all really great breakfast is to die for!
We stop almost every Sunday for breakfast. The way the staff interacts with each other is very entertaining. It's a small diner that gets very crowded so it may not be fast but well worth it
Normal diner style menu with great tasting omelets, eggs and meat,Rapa scrapple if wanted.. Very noisy in main area booths or stools at the bar counter but 2 dining areas are removed from that busy cooking area and are quiet and little cooking smoke if you wish to get away. The newspaper writeup posted on their wall next to our... More
I'm a Philly guy who has frequented landmark eateries eg. Pat's Steaks & Geno's in South Philly. I recognize local flavor and Tom & Joe's is loaded with local flavor. Beginning with the old town diner atmosphere; the wait staff's sometime brusque approach; George, the owner/grill master, directing the flow of orders; the efficient back kitchen staff; the matriarch-like aunt... Nothing was good. Very little parking. Cramped environment. The waitress was rude and our breakfast arrived cold. A miserable experience. It was our first, last and only visit. If only one aspect would have been a positive, we might have given it another try.
An old fashioned diner with the best cheesesteak & fries done to perfection I ever had. Certainly will place this restaurant in my top 20 of great meals. Can't wait to try breakfast! ,
I used Goggle to find a restaurant that was close to another attraction my family and I were at. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals. The portions were great and the food was very good. Was disappointed that there was no dessert left for us. Will pre-order it the next time we are in Altoona.
We enjoy stopping and experiencing local restaurants when traveling. This place was busy at breakfast time and we could see why. The food is very different from what you'd get at a chain restaurant. It was home cooked and satisfying. The Breakfast Mess was very good.
Like the diner food, Dislike the wait & parking. Kind of a chat 'n whelp. Regulars chat & chat, see you are ready to order, then chat with servers even more! Nothing to do with a food order, just gossip. Then they close with "whelp, I've gotta..." Then state their itinerary for the rest of the day. Again, nothing to... More
You cannot go to Altoona, and not eat breakfast or lunch here. This place just radiates with the flavor and character of an old town. The people here treat you like family. The breakfast I had had a flavor that only be had on a very hot, vintage grill. I savored every bite. Our waitress was great, and George made... More
