Loved it!

The outside of the place is plain but the food within was delicious. I had the Greek lasagna, which typically does not come with cheese but they put some on to pacify me. It was delicious. Everyone in our party was pleased with what they got. The baklava (sp.?) was good but not as great as other... read more

My wife and I decided to try this place while we were in Altoona for our anniversary. The only negative I have to say about this place is it is not well marked and we drove past it twice. Other than that, once we found it, we loved the food, the staff, and the atmosphere. I got a gyro and... More

We were greated promptly by Barbe whom was also our server. The special included two entrees,a Greek Salad and pita bread for $12.95.Barbe recommended the pastitsio and I'm glad she did.We also ordered moussaka and spanakopita.I had iced tea to drink. The salad and pita bread were served almost immediately. Both were excellent. The pita... More

The Athenian Café is a great place to go if you're tired of all the chain restaurants. The gyro I had was really good, and the atmosphere of the restaurant itself is cheery. I will definitely be back.

This is really a great place with wonderful food and very reasonable prices, and I hate to say anything negative about it, but there it is ... My husband, son and I went there for lunch on Monday before Christmas. Maybe Mondays are generally slow, and one waitress is enough to serve food, to clear tables and to accept payment,... More

The hokey decorations in this restaurant just a mile off I99 belies the filling portions and home-cooked tastiness of the four dishes we ate. The pita bread came out warm and doughy. Hummus was of a nice texture. Side salads were decent. And our main dishes, spanikopita, gyro salad (enormous), and pastichio were delicious. Perfect for a stop off the... More

The Athenian Cafe is undoubtedly one of the best places to eat in Altoona. The food is good; the service is friendly and prompt, and the price is very reasonable. I particularly liked the chicken and baby spinach wrap.

I've eaten in many greek restaurants across the east coast, and The Athenian Cafe is one of my favs! The atmosphere may not be the most unique, but their gyros are awesome, and the price can't be beat! Give it a shot!

The Athenian Cafe in Altoona, PA has wonderful food! It is very reasonably priced and the portions are huge! The have a open, spacious dining room but also do a huge take-out business. It is located very close to the exit on Interstate 99 and would be a nice change-of-pace stop for travelers. It is closed on Sundays. They have... More
