One of my favorite local spots to go when I'm in the mood for barbecue. The restaurant is nothing fancy, located in an old hotel that's been around awhile but the food is very good. The ribs are huge and to use the old saying fall off the bone good. Portions are also big.

We always stop to eat at Grumps when we are in Allentown shopping. Their BBQ is delicious and the shrimp bisque is great too. Always a nice crowd here too

We live in the Allentown area quite close to Grumpy's and have been there many, many times. It has a hometown feel to it - there are definitely regulars at the bar, but it is still kid friendly - especially the back room. The food is amazing, never had anything bad there - but for me the best is the... More

Grumpy's from the outside is not a lot to look at which may be why it has remained a bit of a local gem; however, after many years in business and presence through their portable smokers at local events it is not as quiet a place as once was. There food quality, quantity and price point is hard to beat... More

Recently had dinner here with husband and friends. Have learned an important lesson...stick with the basics if you want value for your money. My salmon crab cakes tasted fine, but the potato pancakes were the worst I've ever had. Greasy, over-cooked... Had a lot of potato pancakes in my life...these didn't even taste like potatoes! Asparagus...so average...and undercooked. Worst surprise,... More

Stopped here on a Saturday. Love some BBQ- especially ribs. This place has a decent bar and some tables as well. Good beer selection. I ordered the pork belly appy which was excellent. Then the fried pickles which were great. I had the half rack of ribs with slaw and collards. The ribs were a little tough. Not sure why.... More

Ok...food was OK...no doubt about it....but when the bill came I almost fell off the chair...this is a BBQ joint...I've been here before. Got specials tonight for myself and wife. Should have asked but each one was $25. And beers were not cheap. What happened after last visit? Did the place get swanky? It looked the same and the meals... More

Being a budding backyard BBQer, I try to stop and check out these independent places while traveling. Grumpy's Roadhouse is an apt name - nothing fancy, just a decent place a bit out of the way near Allentown. On a Wednesday night, there was a crowd, with people waiting for a table as I left at 7 pm (a good... More

With having been a bbq regular in Texas and Arkansas this does not live up to the hype, even for the north east, in my opinion. The beef briquette was extremely dry and it look like lunch meat it was so thinly sliced. The bbq wings were decent but nothing I would write home about. The best food item was... More

"Roadhouse" is right. This out-of-the-way spot could be where Lil' Abner and Daisy Mae came on dates. You might drive by without noticing it -- use your GPS. The address says Allentown, but it's a bit north of the city on a back road in the tiny settlement of Mechanicsburg. Not too impressive from the outside, but once you cross... More
