Description: Stricklands(R) Frozen Custard was founded in 1936 by Bill and Florence...
Stricklands(R) Frozen Custard was founded in 1936 by Bill and Florence Strickland. During his years as an Akron Pure Milk employee, Bill developed his own rich recipe of cream, eggs, sugar and other ingredients. With his formula perfected, Bill turned his attention to developing an ice cream machine (called a "batch freezer") that would quickly freeze the ice cream, while limiting the air whipped into the product. The result is Stricklands' award-winning ice cream and frozen custard.

Bill and Florence built the first Stricklands Frozen Custard stand on Triplett Avenue in Akron, Ohio, and the Stricklands' legend was born. The original ice cream store is still in operation today (and so are the original batch freezers!), Run by the third generation of the Strickland family, and serving the same fantastic ice cream and frozen custard that made Stricklands a local landmark.

an Akron institution

These folks have been selling custard for 50 years or so. The unique taste brings back memories and joy of a simpler time. Plain vanilla is great, chocolate chip awesome, mint chocolate chip...you can't go wrong here.

They serve pretty nice custard ice cream. They only have 3-4 flavors a day but usually they are pretty good. For a place like this, price is pretty reasonable also.

This is one of our favorite summer treats. Hands down, this is the best ice cream in Northeast Ohio. Be sure to check out their website or Facebook page for the featured flavors of the day.

My husband was born in Ohio and this is a place we have to visit every time when we visit from Virginia. Strickland's does have awesome custard! My husband says the VERY BEST ever anywhere! There are always lots of people here, service is quick and friendly! I usually opt for plain vanilla and sometimes the hot fudge sundae. My... More

Great place for custard. try one of the flavors of the day - Dulche de Leche, Mocha Chunk, Rocky Road, & Black Raspberry Chunk are some of my favorites, if not the vanilla is also great.

20 years later and a wonderful welcome home!! We came for the All American Soap Box Derby, and this is the ONLY place to get great homemade custard. Todays flavor was grape and my all time favorite! Make sure to also get photos of the airdock, Derby downs, and the defunct rubber bowl.

Maple has always been my favorite. Been living in Akron and frequenting Strickland's for over 40 years. They are slowly raising prices, and the quality is poorer than ever. The maple tasted like plain vanilla. When we asked if they gave us vanilla by mistake, the manager tried it out of their machine and said it tasted fine to him.... More
