I lived in Germany for 7 years and this Asheville restaurant served some of the best German food I had ever had. Service was excellent and there is a wide array of selections on the menu. Try the Jaeger Schnitzel!

What a find! After being disappointed in many German restaurants here in the US, finally one that has real German food. It took me back to many of the meals I had a Etta's near Frankfurt . Fresh, rich flavors in ample amounts.Their potato salad and red cabbage are a must! The wait staff are very knowledgeable about both their... More

Great idea ! and atmosphere. authentic beers, wait-staff with leder hosen. My wife's Filet was too dry, not acceptable for a price of $29. My veal Oscar was pretty good but the veal was slightly overcooked and it and the authentic German side dishes were cold not warmed when served. only a few people were then seated so why was... PROS Great service. Noell was attentive, knowledgeable & informative. She was also helpful with gluten free. Prices were fair , portions were somewhat large. Food was delicious, and certainly home made. CONS None. Noted comment about the music from another reviewer, but ours was a mix of genres. Highly recommended.

I had the sampler platter - a great way to experience all the tastes. Certainly reminded me of the times I spent in Germany. As for the comments about being dated - do not forget we Americans are the new kids on the block - the ambience projects Old County Germany - as it should. Good value, good food, am... More

Sorry, but even after being very adaptable in placing some 20 odd diners at a table in a private room...and, truly, never having been told so many would come, still the food was not that great. The service was excellent but the food was not as good as in the past. My partner and I ate there about a year ago,... More

On entering the restaurant we found three members of staff engaged in conversation. My companion and I waited, ignored, until a young lady asked what we wanted and we told her a table for two. She replied 'I'll be right back', walked off and we didn't see her again. Eventually we were taken to a table and waited for a... More

I absolutely love the food here. I actually crave it. It's so delicious and hearty. The flavors are amazing. The portions are huge but that makes for leftovers later. Even reheated this food doesn't disappoint. The bread you are served when you are seated his obviously homemade. The herbed butter tastes so fresh. I am obsessed with the Schnitzel Überbacken.... I've been wanting to try this place for years and finally got to last week. I was very impressed. The atmosphere was awesome and the food was some of the best I have had in this area. Highly recommended. We went during lunch and pretty much had the place to ourselves. The decor does seem a bit outdated but still... More

I visited Black Forest for the first time this past Monday evening. I ordered the German sampler platter and . . . OMG! That thing is huge, enough food for two people. Everything was good - the bratwurst and schnitzel were outstanding. I finished off everything but a few stray noodles. Wish I had saved room for one of their... More
