Amazing ramen

One of the best ramen places in Kyoto we are sure! It is close to 錦市場 so do visit when you are around. Great atmosphere - be prepared to queue up though. We were there at around 5pm and people already started to queue outside.

Nice decor with friendly staff. I ordered the burnt miso ramen, which is very different to a lot of miso ramens I've tried. With the sitting, a side dish at 300 yen was compulsory (which wasn't mentioned until we ordered our ramen). The wait wasn't long for the ramen to come out. The noodles itself were okay, and the pork... More

Came here for lunch around 1 pm. There were 2 people waiting outside already and we waited a few minutes. We got the Kogashi Shoyu Ramen and the Kogashi Miso Ramen. Both were 880 yen and both are burnt ramens. On one of the orders we added a gyoza and rice for an extra 200 yen. We've been here several... More

The minute you step foot into this restaurant to will notice that the only people that eat here are other tourists. Not that it is a bad thing, but the locals definitely do not eat here given it is loud and the food is not amazing. The ramen itself is extremely salty and they charge 300 yen REQUIRED side dish... Burnt miso ramen was extremely good, large serving good cold beer in a stien, there is always a line up so just write down your name on the sheet at the front of the door and take a seat on the wooden bench

I was reading a lot of Trip Advisor reviews before I came here, and while many people are praising how great the Burnt Miso is, it was nothing special to me (and I've had a lot of ramen from Japan for 8 years now). That's exactly what it is, miso ramen with charred bits and pieces to give it a... More

We arrived here randomly. The staff spoke decent English. English menus ofcourse, we tried both the burnt miso and the burnt soy ramen. Both were amazing. As well their fried chicken was delicious. Bathrooms were super clean and had small packets of mouth wash for after your meal. Went their 2 days in a row.

the burnt miso soup is more delicious than it sounds, it's easy to consume and suitable for lunch. Plus nishiki market is right next door. the shop also has a really nice atmosphere going on.

I visited this place with my family. The queue was about 15 mins (at 1PM). I think it tasted good; however, my family thought that it was too salty and not worth the wait. So I'd say it depends on your taste.

I tried the most famous item, I.e. The burnt soy sauce ramen, it is a weird or friend said it is an unique experience, feels like taking charcoal soup.. The char siew was nice for the ramen. I am an egg person and the egg is done half-cooked to perfection as you would find in a lot Japanese noodle shops.... More

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
