Visiting here after a day of sightseeing in the cold warmed us up no end. We decided to have dinner and the food was really good quality and prepared freshly. I had the fish and chips. The batter was light and crispy and the fish was delicious. Also had a very nice pint of Guinness to go with it. Atmosphere... More

Nicely decorated, friendly pub with English speaking staff and Irish beer on draft. Drinks are a bit pricey ($6-9), but it's Japan.

Happened in by chance today and was swept away by amazing local jazzband/-artists! Typical Irish pub (am 25% Irish so thats a compliment) Decent beer menu and tasty "volcano"-pizza - single serving, though! But whatever.. Amazing live music! Go check it out, just in case! Could be very worth it :)

The atmosphere is nice, decoration also. But when the other reviewers are telling you that portions are small, it's true ! We were 6 people and our main dish was delivered over a one hour slot ensuring that each of us will eat alone ! 650 yen for a glass of soft drink is simply outrageous. Overall, the address would... Nice selection of drinks and reasonably priced pub food like fish-n-chips and bangers and mash. Sometimes they have really good authentic music.

Really friendly atmosphere. Usually a good crowd to chat to. We ordered fish and chips and shepherds pie which was really fresh.

Wandered in looking to catch a game on the TV. They were happy to spend time trying to see if they could find a channel that was showing it. When they couldn't get one, they called around and sent me off to another nearby pub that was showing it. The place is located right outside the Gion station. Great location... More

Found this place when I was out with my friends. Had a lot of interesting characters who seemed to run the place... A bit pricy but we had fun. The regulars got a bit rowdy toward the end of the night so we took off. Seems like a good place if it's your thing.

Staying in Gion

Neighborhood Profile
Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
