We tried to book into this small restaurant on a Friday or Saturday in July but it was fully booked so booked for Sunday night. They have a English menu with pictures and the food we ordered was fantastic. We had the sashimi plate which was to die for, tempura plate, Japanese curry and rice and it was all delicious.... More

I've never liked the okonomiyaki in Japan because it is often undercooked, too greasy, or the restaurant uses old oil. Not the case at this excellent little restaurant that is open until midnight. The grills are spotlessly clean, the okonomiyaki is cooked all the way through, and the oil is fresh. Do try the Kyoto negi--famous green onions that the... More

Family run Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, staff is very welcoming and helpful, food is cooked in front of you and is simply gorgeous! Worth a visit, maybe even two:)

There might be the odd western face, and they do have a menu (with pictures) in English, but its overwhelmingly a place for locals. It's also popular (they were turning people away at 7pm on a Monday night). The boys working the narrow kitchen space speak a bit of English and were very friendly. The mixed okonomiyaki was good, and... More

We had eaten here back in April 2006 while in Kyoto. We had read about okonomiyaki in preparation for that trip but had never seen it on any Japanese restaurant menu in the food obsessed SF Bay Area as most are focused on sushi, or teppan yaki or tempura. I loved the okonomiyaki we had back in April 2006 and... More

Great local restaurant in Higashiyama. Staying at the Westin Miyako Hotel up the road and asked for local recommendations for a casual, quick bite to eat. Staff was very friendly and eager to serve us/provide us with some recommendations. English menus (with pictures) are available and the staff speaks enough English to order the correct food. Service/staff was great- very... More

We had lunch at this lively little restaurant after visiting Kiyomizu-dera. When walking down the hill after leaving the temple take the left road at the fork and continue down to the main road, Higashioji St. Turn right to Kiraku okonomiyaki restaurant at #208. It is a small, simple place with booth and counter seating. Food is prepared on a... More

Wow! Great service AND very good food that is prepared and served in front on you. We enjoyed the noodles the first time we were there so went back for a second visit and tried the Japanese pancake. Menu is in Japanese and English and more English is understood than they let on. For 2 plates of noodles or 2... More
