Great example of green tea based food/sweets

If you can find it (upstairs near West gate) this place is definitely worth a visit. Reasonably priced considering. Green tea everything under the sun. Even the green tea cake was yum. English menu and staff speak good English also.

The green tea dessert, with green tea ice-cream, green tea jelly, mochi and red bean paste, is simply divine! I can eat this over and over again! Love it!

The restaurant is located inside the Kyoto station. Very convenient location. I ordered a green tea cold soba noodle set and a green tea jelly parfait with black honey. Both were good. The parfait did not taste sugary but it was expensive for a dessert(over 1000 yen). Very popular shop. May need to wait in time.

"Nakamura Toukichi" is one of traditional Japanese Green Tea House, the main shop locates in Uji, Nara. Without going to Uji, you can try its Maccha Jelly by buying it at shop in 3rd floor of department store "SUVACO" which is in front of the west ticket gate of JR Kyoto Station. When you go out of JR west ticket... More

This place is within the Kyoto station complex, hence its generally crowded. We had to wait for almost half hour to order our matcha flavoured miso and gelato dessert. The best part is that the flavours, though quite alien for an outsider, is just correct to appreciate the taste.

Yes there are plenty of shops and food outlets. Everything is linked to the 7 storey department store which in January has a sale on every floor. Then there are the trains of course and helpful ticket office with dedicated line for foreigners open every day til 5pm. drink kiosks on the platforms good for that hot or cold drink... More

We stopped by the Nakamura Tokichi Kyoto Station while we were visiting Japan. This restaurant is a teetotaller’s paradise. As you enter, different aromas of tea and desserts assail you in a heady and wonderful manner. I loved the general ambience of the place and tried the Matcha flavoured meals along with my sister. The spaghetti was al dente and... More

Although it is in an isolated corner, the snaking queue endorsed the great desserts that it serves. The 900+yen matcha parfait is not too sweet and is of a comfortable size for tea time. It is a common sight to see people ordering double serving.

Nice concept of Matcha flavoured meals (from spaghetti to desserts), but pricey. A matcha dessert that I took costs 950 yen which was way too much. It is on the third floor of the station, at a small isolated section not part of the big shopping mall.

I didn't eat in the restaurant but opted for a green tea jelly cup to go. It had Azuki and rice balls in it and a cup like that cost ¥380. It wasn't very out of the world but it was quintessentially Japanese :) it was crowded even though I went quite late at night. Would love to try their... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
