italian in little kyoto

I think the menu may have changed since previous reviews, as this restaurant in pontocho alley is italian all the way - no Japanese or asian fusion here. Finding this restaurant in Pontocho was perfect. The queue / wait to be seated was not as long as feared (ten to fifteen minutes ). The food was very affordable, beautifully presented and delicious. Staff were attentive and helpful. So much so we made a return visit!!

At each restaurant I visited in Japan, whether free standing or in a hotel or department store, I received very polite service. I speak no Japanese and the wait staff rarely spoke any English, yet we always found a way to communicate. The food was consistently fresh and delightfully presented. I kept waiting for the "outlier", but either I was... More

We walked into this place on a Saturday night and were told there was a 50 minute wait. We opted not to wait - after reading all the horror stories in trip advisor about long waits for Kyoto restaurants. Good move as we came back early the next week and had a fabulous time. We were in Kyoto for 8... More

I was there this evening and after a while I was already anxious to come and write about this place. After ten days, my worst restaurant experience in Japan. First I'm asked to wait fifteen minutes, another couple comes after us and waits, then after a lot of people have left the place a japanese couple comes and enter before... More

This is a nice place, a real little piece of japan with nice authentic Japanese food. At the start you are told there is a 300 yen cover charge per person which covers a small starter and condiments. Now the condiments should be included and the starter should be optional, so it starts on a bit of a downer in... More

We came here after reading the positive reviews and were very disappointed. The service was good, but the food was lacking in flavour and tiny portions. The front of the restaurant was also completely without ambiance. I am surprised people would describe this as romantic. It was the most disappointing meal we had in a week in Japan. I'm not... The restaurant isn't that big, but was full of surprises. After almost a full week of Japanese menu, Mimasuya offers an excellent alternative. Chef use the same ingredient for common dishes but twisted it with different finishes. Thumps up for his creativity!

We jumped in this pretty restaurant by chance. Reviews were good and the menu showed affordable prices with a beautiful location. We then decided to step in and th decision was really good. The place is typical Japanese. You have to take off your shoes at the entrance. The food was very tasty although the portions were somehow small. I... More
