Wonderful food and friendly staff

What a little gem! We chose this place late at night because it was still open and had an English menu. We got a table overlooking the river, which was nice. And the food was amazingly good. Its Japanese French fusion -lots of butter- so we didnt know what to expect but everything tasted excellent... read more

After 20 minutes in the waiting area we took a seat upstairs rather than waiting even longer to be outside. We were sat at 8 pm and literally no one came and talked to us after that. No water, no drink order, no appetizer order, no I'll come back and check on you, nothing. We waited 20 minutes patiently and... More

We were seated on the second floor overlooking the water and had various courses--all delicious. They included Sashimi (raw yellow tail fish with wasabi soy sauce), deep fried scallop, roast beef, Teriyaki chicken, pork cooked with soy sauce, lettuce salad, rolled sushi, miso soup and for dessert ice cream and tofu tiramisu.

We booked the night before and were shown to a lovely upstairs table overlooking the river. The food was delicious - but the service was atrocious - really surly waiter from start to finish and it took 2 hours from ordering to receiving our last main course - we didnt have time to order desert nor did we feel that... I write this review completely filled with gratitude to this restaurant. We walked on off the street looking for something suitable for 2 kids (7&9), a grandma (68) and 3 adults trying to get authentic japanese food. Had no high expectations, just identified it a a menu suitable to all our palates. The food, I have to say was excellent.... More

This is the most wonderful thing about Japanese cuisine, along with its being attractive and healthy. This place is in a charming location in the traditional part of the city along the river. Our group ate upstairs. The only problem was that we were a bit rushed because they were expecting another group after us.

Good food -- had a wonderful tuna and avocado carpaccio! Nice to eat at the counter. Can accommodate larger groups in a back room.

Having a dozen or so izakaya experiences under my belt before we stumbled across this place, I can say with confidence that it was my favourite of the lot. There was not one dish that we ordered that wasn't enjoyed. We had to come back for a second serving in our 6 nights in Kyoto just so we could try... More

(Western)-user-friendly place, without detracting from authenticity and from excellent quality food: sometimes it's nice to be able to read the menu.....Above average selection of wines. Reassuring presence of Japanese customers: definitely not a "tourist trap".
