One of the best meals we had during our holiday in Kyoto :) We arrived a little after the lunch rush - around 2pm on a weekday so there wasnt much of a wait (10mins max) We were seated on a huge communal table (very spaced out from other diners) My husband ordered the tenderloin cutlet + prawn cutlet set... On the 11th floor of Isetan, JR Kyoto Station, the lovely little place was a revelation. They have a wide choice of Ton Katsu in variety of weights and cuts. They will bring you out a bowl to grind down sesame seeds that you add sauce to (sweet or spicy). The pork comes with a mountain of shredded cabbage, miso... More

A fun meal with lots of different elements such as grinding the sesame seeds in your own pestle amd mortar and selecting a sauce to add. Would highly recommend the tenderloin over the normal, as it was thicker with much less fat and crunchy bits.

We had dinner here one night and were attracted by the style of food and the popularity. We weren't disappointed despite the 15 min wait during which we were provided English menus. The pork ternderloin katsu meal was really tender and tasty and as a part of the meal you were given unlimited tea, miso, rice, and cabbage. Whilst it's... More

Locayed in the train station, is very convenient to have a fast bitr. Free rice and misou soup included in a per se complete set menu. Not a bad option but nothing espectacular.

My grand daughter wanted to eat fried pork cutlet at another restaurant but I halted her and promise to take her to try the tonkatsu ay Latsukura, We had a hard time to find Katsukuga (turn left instead of right at the end of restaurants on Isetan's 11th floor. When found it we were the tail of a long line... More

Though as stations go out is better than most. Check out the skyway and the roof garden. Just find the big escalators by the North entrance and keep going up. There are attached shopping malls and a. Aeon just south of the station. You can easily kill a half day here if you have things to buy. But there are... More

I asked at the Granvia Hitel for Katsu and this is where they sent me and this is where they go themselves. I've had this in other places just as good maybe a lower price but the view is worth having dinner here at night. Enjoy!

I visited this restaurant with my wife and three children on a Sunday night after reading the reviews and recommendations. As per some of the reviews, the restaurant is a bit hard to find. When you go into the Shopping centre from the station you can turn left and take the elevator but the line will likely to be quite... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
