Excellent Kobe Beef Dining Experience at a reasonable price!!

Excellent Kobe Beef Dining Experience at a reasonable price!! The service was friendly and attentive ... the setting quite modern and it is nice that you can see the chef preparing the beef and other dishes in front of you. Truly great option if you want a Kobe Beef dinner in Kyoto.

We were craving a good steak dinner and man did we find it. We got sat at a table right away and got served the best Sake and steak we have ever had. The steak literally melted in my mouth. Get the beef tips as an appetizer because that was delicious. If you like more of a show and more... More

Hafuu Honten is tucked away in a small street close to the Imperial Palace Garden, and you can easily overlook it. We reserved in advance, as the number of places at the bar is very limited. There is an a la carte menu, but most diners opt for one of the menu options - it's well worth to pay an... More

A la Carte menu is available but most people do the set menus here which aren't cheap but definitely worth it. This is a beef lovers place, although the tourists next to us were vegetarian and seemed to be able to find something to eat, I wouldn't recommend vegetarians to come here. The restaurant does mainly melt in your mouth... More

We had a wonderful new years eve dinner here. Cannot think of anything to improve. Food was excellent, wine was great, staff very friendly. We had the menu with the fillet, well worth the extra expense. Well recommended!

We had the course meals. My wife had filet and I had sirloin. Our kids shared a larger sirloin. It was unreal. Like I mean, you put the first piece in your mouth and you cannot believe it. The roast beef appetizer and amuse bouche were equally fantastic. I strongly suggest the course meal so you can try what they... More

I discovered this good value restaurant in January, visited it twice in a 4 days, and raved about it here on TripAdvisor. So it was here we chose to have our final dinner of our December Kyoto visit, and we were honoured that Executive Chef Onishi-san remembered us. The set Hafuu dinner menu has been tweaked slightly, and some of... More

I write underwhelmed only based on the other reviews here, rather than on the food, and also when compared to other places. I agree with most other ppl that the menu is solid (I picked the topline set menu), and the food itself was perfectly good throughout. However, having said that, elsewhere in Japan I have had better steak (in... More

My friend and I absolutely loved Hafuu! We had one of the smaller course meals but there was still a lot of food! Sit at the counter it's very enjoyable to watch all the preparations and also to see the friendly atmosphere between the people who worked there.

They steer you to one of the set menus and I think that this is the best value - although it can end up as three courses of different cuts of beef and a desert! However, since the beef is superb, and if you like beef - then that is just fine. Thank you! English is well understood, and not... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
