Simply great

Hafuu Honten even exceeded our high expectations. We ordered a 5 course set for JPY 7000. Every dish was very good (even the crème brulée was excellent by Western European standards) and the rare cooked Wagyu beef was without doubt one of the best pieces of meat I ever tasted. Great food and great... read more

I'm not a foodie, my girlfriend is. The appetiser had shrimp and eggplant, neither particularly high on my list, and it was delicious! The steak was among the best I've ever had. A bit pricey for those that don't food first but was well worth the price and the wander to find it even for a culinary Neanderthal like me.... More

We had a bit of a getting lost day -first at ryoanji temple, then getting back from kinkaku-ji temple (then a mini panic about how we were getting to Hokkaido later this month) and finally getting lost for nearly an hour in the rain looking for the restaurant (our own fault -trip advisor gave us perfect directions and we walked... My husband and I dined here NYE 2014 (We made reservations a few months prior to arriving into Kyoto) Upon arriving at restaurant, we stood in the doorway for about 5-10mins, waiting for someone to greet us and direct us to our seats. We were seated along the counter alongside other diners that were already half way through their meal.... More

My boyfriend I agreed, that the dinner at Hafuu was one of the BEST dinners we had in our lives. My parents are chefs so I am a bit of a foodie and very picky when it comes to defining what is quality food. Hafuu's course meals are perfectly portioned and every bite was filled with simple, yet elegant favors.... More

I visited this restaurant because of the many good reviews that i saw on TripAdvisor. Indeed, the service was very good. The wagyu steak was very well prepared and grilled. However, the prices were a bit high. If you are are prepared to go there for "high-end" dinning you will be a bit disappointed. Salads and side dishes were not... More

The service is slick, the staff are friendly and the manager spoke great english. We shared different dishes with each one more delicious than the next. And of course the beef is the star. Delicious.

We found this place on Trip Advisor and seriously.... Best beef we have ever tasted! We are in the cattle farming industry in Australia and it has made us realise what slim pickings we get over here- Japan gets all the top quality stuff! A meal to remember- 28000 yen for both of us- that included one of their top... More

The beef is amazing and so tender it melts in your mouth! Set menus with multiple courses are offered. Very good value for money!Side dishes are ok but not great. I had a menu with two fish dishes, they were also just ok. Go for the meat dishes which are perfect! Dessert is very nice. Service is quick and friendly.... More

Sirloin. Amazing. Was at the more traditional of the two locations and sat at the kitchen. Fabulous food, very friendly staff. Defiantly worth searching out.

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
