Delicious

We ate here on a chilly day before heading to Ginkakuji - perfection and the food was beyond delicious and one of our best meals in Kyoto - short walk to temple and philosophers walk.

I saw this place's post in several media. You have to expect a long waiting list (at least 40 minutes) but very worth it. The noodles are soft but elastic, and the soup tasted so good that i wanted more. If you want some spin on the soup, try the condiments. And make sure to try the tempuras too. When... More

We stopped by here after a trip to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Restaurant is very quaint, staff is friendly, and the food is good! We ordered the omen noodles (home made udon noodles) with the tempura. The noodles were soft and delicious, tempura flaky and battered just the right amount. They give you some interesting condiments to add to your broth. A... More

I read about this restaurant on Lonely Planet and later noticed that it was also recommended by our JR rail pass book. The restaurant was a bit confusing to find initially but we asked a few people and located it eventually. It is very close to the Silver Temple. There was about a 10 minute wait -- it could have... My wife read about this place on trip advisor. After visiting Ginkakuji it took us a while to locate this place as there are no signage in English. The best landmark is that it is located near the car park. This is an excellent choice for lunch before embarking on the Philosophers walk. The place is rather small which is normal for Japanese eating... This is Freescale, seasonal Japanese food, no fuss and very good value if you choose one of the set meals. The udon noodles are plump, chewy and slippery, just right! And a speciality if the house. The accompaniments add texture and crunch and are just delightful. If you are hungry add the tempura which again relies on fresh ingredients and fast... More

Had the seasonal set with fantastic autumn dishes - a cold pumpkin salad with a tofu cream dressing (sounds ordinary but was very good) another one with mushrooms and greens with lime dressing and a couple of other nice bits. This was followed by the udon noodles with soup and lots of nice condiments to add which was excellent. Noodles... More

One must have noodles when in Japan! This is an udon place recommended by our hotel. They have both Japanese floor style and Western chair style seating. Fortunately, they can accommodate a large group. We had a group of 6 people, walked in for a late lunch with no reservations, and were seated upstairs after maybe a 15 minute wait.... More

We recently had five days in Kyoto and five in Tokyo. We tried Omen on a recommendation and, after walking around for quite some time trying to find it stumbled across it just as we were about to give up. So glad we persisted! The noodles in the ramen were the softest and freshest we had in the whole of... More

Great hot or cold udon lunch sets in a beautiful, traditional restaurant very close to the Silver Temple (Ginkaku-ji) and the northern end of the Philosopher's Path. Even though it was te most expensive udon we ate our entire time in Japan, I still thought the lunch set was reasonably priced considering the very high quality of all the artistically-presented...
