Great Ramen, Great Prices, Great Atmosphere

We arrived to a long line of business men lining up around the block. There are 5 noodle choices on the menu and a few others without noodles. We ordered while still in line and got a seat as soon as two freed up inside. Like a "beer hall" we sat at a table with other diners. The food was... More

Arriving late at Kyoto, feeling tired, didn't feel like a nice dinner. Looking for places to eat on review site, I ate at what it turned out was "the ramen" of Kyoto. As it was warned on the review, there were some lines. It was good I went at night as I would not liked to wait in line during... More

We went there based on the closeness to my hotel (Dormy Hotel also excellent). The line outside of the place made me feeling good about the decision before I ever stepped inside. There were more than a few other english speakers in the place and everyone seemed to be able to order well enough despite the limited english of the... More

When tired of walking I choosed a restaurant looked good. The service was ok, eventhough the waitress didn't know much English and their menu was so complicated, I even couldn't imagine how the food was from the English description they gave below. The noodle is quite sweet and cool, more suitable for summer i think, but tempura and shushi were... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
