Just trying to find this place is half the experience. Once you find it you will feel like you stumbled into a magical world hidden away in another reality. Haha. The interior is like an old homely cabin filled with history and stories. The vegan food is fantastic and the owner is quite the character. The location is downtown. It... More

We were recommended this place by a friend who had been earlier in the year (also on the advice of a friend). It took a little bit of finding, but was well worth the effort we went to in locating it. Situated in an alleyway behind the shop fronts, the first impression upon arrival is that you're dining in someone's... More

As confirmed vegetarians we were getting by on scraps and leftovers till we chanced upon this gem! For the first time we ate with the confidence that stock up, the food conformed to vegetarian standards. As others have pointed out, it is a small place, and assaults the senses when you first enter, but a very charming place. The food... More

For a thousand yen the set menu is both great value and delicious. The restaurant (more of a front room of the owners's house) is very un-Japanese; it's packed to the roof with cat artwork, books,CDs..not to mention a rather cute cat. The clientele (there's only room for ten people sitting at the bar) are a mixture of locals and... More

I loved this restaurant! As other people have said it is tricky to find without directions so it helps to look it up online first. Once you walk down the tiny alleyway it does feel like you are walking into someone's house but you are in the right place! It is very small but great food and well worth searching... More

Vegetarian food isnt easy to come by in Japan so we were very happy to find Mikoan. We ordered two vegetarian sets which were 1000yen each but each set was different and we were told to share. The food was cooked in front of us and was delicious. The setting is unusual. You enter through a small alleyway and enter... More

My husband and I went to have dinner at Mikoan. for 1000 yen you can't go wrong. She gave us each a different set so we got to try 10 different dishes, plus miso soup and a generous bowl of brown rice. Everything was delicious! There was a fake fried chicken that was just exceptional. I can't wait to go... More

I've eaten at this tiny hole-in-the-wall with funky peace-poster and cat decoration several times. The food is prepared to order, served perfectly cooked, and is always fascinating. (Don't go if untidiness disturbs you!) You sit at the counter, she cooks right in front of your eyes, and hands the tray to go as soon as it's ready. An experience worth... More
