Traditional Japanese breakfast in modern setting

This place is worth going to if you want to see what a traditional Japanese breakfast is like and presented well also. I think its good for what it is, though salty fish and rice isn't really what I want to eat to kick off my day. Service was fine. There's a nice view of a Japanese garden.

This restaurant gets a lot of visitors nowadays so be prepared to come here as early as you can depending on your target meal of the day. We tried the lunch menu and it did not disappoint. For a reasonable price (except for the dessert add-on), you'll get a superb set meal with free rice, miso soup, and service tea... More

We arrived back from touring at 2pm and most restaurants were closed. This looked great from the outside but we were wondering how authentic it would be. Verdict was we loved it. Lunch menu was limited but the salmon bowl was great and my husband loved the beef curry. Staff were friendly so great experience overall.

This place looks great, but the staff are rude. After having a very overpriced breakfast, I was asked to leave the restaurant while waiting for my friend to return from the restroom. Unbelievable. Never thought I'd find such rude service in Kyoto.

We only ate breakfast here (I kept wanting to return for other meals but never managed it). The traditional Japanese breakfast with fish is delicious as is the egg sandwich. Everything is presented beautifully and the charming servers elevated the meal still further. There are a few desserts served at breakfast and if the one we sampled is any indication... More

We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at this place. All is good. But the best is matcha pasta. You should try it. Very worth to try. I am recommending this place to enjoy the time when you visit Kyoto. Won't regret it.

I recommend going early for their breakfasts. They sold out of some items. They accept my US Mastercard, which was nice. The pork and eggs sandwich meal was fantastic. My girlfriend found her raw egg and rice meal to be rather bland, but not disappointing. It was a simple breakfast. She says it was very light on her stomach.

We visited Iyemon a couple of times, first for tea and cakes, second for lunch. There was a choice of Japanese teas, beautifully served on a tray with teapot, hot water flask, strainer and precise instructions about how to make the perfect cup of whichever tea you had ordered. Cakes/desserts were delicious and nicely presented. Lunch was fresh, delicious and... More

My friend and I went to this cafe for a light meat in the afternoon. The place is extremely cozy and it serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Their menu is very simple, however I tried their 'Green Tea Pasta' and it was heavenly!!! The taste of this food is so incredible, it's a combination of Japanese flavor married... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
