Nice eal, too touristy

I don't think there even were Japanese customers when we were there. English was no problem of course. Yes, very nice eal!

We came for dinner. Each one of us ordered one unagi donburi and a drink. Each donburi came with unagi soup. The unagi was very fresh. The portion of rice given was huge. I liked the food but thought it was expensive to charge 2100 yen per person for an unagi rice bowl. Restaurant was easy to find. Will probably... More

Love this place. Have been eating here often when visiting in Kyoto. Eels are grilled over charcoal which gives them a slightly smoky flavor.

Visited this place based on the recommendation from the 'insidekyoto' website. The building is old and atmospheric, although the lighting could be vastly improved (Strip fluorescent is so unflattering for everything!). The service was by a few older ladies who were fairly nonchalant, which was fine since it's kind of part of the charm of the time bubble the place... More

The restaurant front doesn't have "Kane-yo" clearly written on the outside, but pretty easy to spot from the photos attached to these reviews. Friendly and smiley staff. Had lunch special of unagi (grilled eel) on rice, set meal with miso & soft tofu. Delicious and very good value around 1000 yen. Compared well with other similar meals I had elsewhere,... More

Went to eat at this place based on several travel reviews. Both the unagi with rice, or the unagi with egg and rice were priced at between 2400-3000 yen each (depending on size). We opted for medium size at 2800 yen each. Not sure if the price matches the taste. You can get a good unagi rice meal from Yoshinoya... More

I visited this restaurant long ago, its atmosphere is no change, old but friendly, casual and comfortable. It's representative dish is called Kinshi-Don, big square baked egg on eel.You will see the eel is kept in fresh overflowing water for days to take away of its smell. However, maybe due to hike of the price of eel recently, the eel... More

Given that it is difficult to get good eel these days, Kaneyo is doing its best. To maintain over 100 years of history is not easy. I've certainly had better eels in my early years, any eel these days is not the ones I have been used to. Especially the wild eels are practically impossible to get these days. I... More

Gadzooks. Perhaps this place saw better days before the tsunami. Lonely planet recommended it, but for us it was terribly dissappointing. For the same price, we had a lovely meal next door at Wontana.

Great place specializing in grilled eel over rice with good beer options. Full of japanese people so I take it was authentic. The guy next to us was wearing a traditional japanese robe. Very enjoyable and delicious food outing.
