We find the place by mistake while we look for another restaurant to eat The service is great and the tempura is tasty and just made in front of you It take about 2 hours to eat but the experience is totally worth it The are beautiful gardens inside near the private tables

Sitting at the counter with 8 other very happy, very interactive guests, watching the manic chef preparing everything with great speed, flair and freshness. We don't know how he kept track of who got what. The waitresses extremely charming and gracious. After the main meal, we are ushered into a room in the inn by the fire-pit for a lovely... More

Yoshikawa is located in a ryokan, meaning that you get a more traditional experience. The restaurant is small, seating maybe 12 at a time. Everyone is at a counter on three sides of the chef, and conversations among the guests seem commonplace, which was part of the fun. After the meal, you are brought into another room where you are... As we were staying at the Inn, we quite easily found this place. 11 seats around a bar- that's it Fresh seasonal ingredients Tempura chef who knows his stuff and is beyond efficient (though NOT social- which is fine given what he delivers). Fun ambiance as there are often lots of tourists and conversations start easily. Super authentic look and... More

So my daughter picked this place out of a Tokyo guide book. Trip advisor reviews looked good so we decided to give it a shot for lunch. It was our last Japanese meal before we headed back to the good ole USA. I must say that everything was delightful including the service and the other patrons at the counter. The... More

We had an excellent lunch in one of the private rooms at this restaurant. We went on a rare day where there was snow in Kyoto - a great experience looking out into the garden sitting on tatami mats in a warm room. Lunch was excellent kaiseki style tempura, starting with sashimi, soup, etc. before the tempura arrived. The light... More

From the intimate setting to the desert in the reception area, a thoroughly delightful occasion. The tempura was prepared at a counter by a polite chef who described each dish as he served it. After dinner we retired to an adjoining room for dessert on tatami and a low table. The whole experience was delicious and serene.

Had a superb meal in a wonderful private tatami room overlooking the garden. Ten courses altogether and each was excellent. Service, too, was super. That's the good bit. Having booked two ¥10,000 meals in advance, we were disapponted to get a bill for ¥27,000. Taxes and service charges had been added on top - that's the bad bit. Worth it... More

We chose this restaurant because we were looking for a good dish of tempura and very quickly scan through the reviews on trip advisor. We expected it to be a little on the pricey side (someone had written $30) and were anticipating a very casual place that served a big helping of fried sweet potatoes and broccoli. But instead… we... You won't like it here if you're a cheapskate. It's pricey, for sure. But the experience is out of this world. We stayed at the inn -- you may get better treatment if you do? -- and ate until our eyes almost popped. Perhaps 15 courses of tempura: scallop, two different shrimp, several fish, baby corn, eggplant, yam, mushroom, asparagus,... More
