After a few days in Kyoto, we decided to go for a tempura restaurant. After checking around a bit, Yoshikawa seemed like a good idea, but we had no idea how good it would actually be. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff very attentive. The food speaks for itself and it was great. Just an amazing experience advisable for... More

Amazing light touch tempura - way better than anything else we've eaten in Japan. The fish and vegetables were perfectly cooked with just enough amazing tempura batter. and just had to have extra scallops as they were so sweet. Great meal in a friendly, tiny place.

First of all, I don't really like tempura that much. But this wasn't bad at all. Theit tempura is not as thick as you find it in many other japanese restaurants. It's not a full coating and therefore lighter and you do get a chance to taste what is inside the fried thing. The set dinner is either 6, 8... More

We had a 10days tour here last winter and it was fabulous. I fell in love with their tempura because of its fresh ingredients. I will definitely comeback if i get a chance to return to Kyoto again.

We reserved at the last minute and could not find place at the counter. We had a room of the Ryokan all for ourselves. Atmosphere is just perfect: views on an intimate and quite inner garden, top service even for Japanese highest standards, delicious food. Prices are high, but the experience is worth them. Would love to go there again!

As a family of 5 (the youngest of which was 15) visiting Japan for the first and probably last time, we wanted to have one amazing "kaiseki" meal during our stay to experience Japanese cuisine and culture at its finest. We were not disappointed. This lovely old "ryokan" inn is located down a side street south of Oike Dori near... More

Delicious tempura in a beautiful setting. Quiet, calm; and with just 11 seats at the tempura counter bar makes the experience special and intimate. Inexpensive lunch temputa omakase with fresh ingredients. Definitely will go back next time in Kyoto. Good place to go for some fine, real tempura - truly light, crispy batter which is barely there - not at... More

Sitting at the counter with 8 other very happy, very interactive guests, watching the manic chef preparing everything with great speed, flair and freshness. We don't know how he kept track of who got what. The waitresses extremely charming and gracious. After the main meal, we are ushered into a room in the inn by the fire-pit for a lovely... More

Yoshikawa is located in a ryokan, meaning that you get a more traditional experience. The restaurant is small, seating maybe 12 at a time. Everyone is at a counter on three sides of the chef, and conversations among the guests seem commonplace, which was part of the fun. After the meal, you are brought into another room where you are...
