Cake :-)

Loads of cakes and breads that are reasonably priced. Many European styles like Danish pastries and scones as well as Asian baked comestibles like steamed buns and red bean paste are available. Drinks were very nice. Slightly confusing method of service but, with this being in Japan, staff are... read more

Loads of cakes and breads that are reasonably priced. Many European styles like Danish pastries and scones as well as Asian baked comestibles like steamed buns and red bean paste are available. Drinks were very nice. Slightly confusing method of service but, with this being in Japan, staff are obviously uber-helpful. My biggest and probably only gripe would be the... More

One thing my husband and I loved about Japan were the restaurants that were buffeteria style, and Andersen's was the best one! They have a multitude of food options, and out of the 3 times going here we have never had a bad dish! All food is cooked to order and served to your table. The best part is that... More

Heads up, we didn't eat at the kitchen, but we did buy from the bakery (then ate at the A-dome in the park. Highly recommended). What can I say? The selections were extremely plentiful from filo pastries to red bean doughnuts to fresh bread. Pretty much every kind of baked good was available and it was hard to limit choices... More

Building was established in 1925 as a bank, operated as bakery and restaurant since 1967. Andersen was the pioneer in introducing customers self-serve of bread using trays and tonsils in Japan. Could not resist buying some mouth-watering bread, cakes and pastry even when shopping with a full stomach.

My visit was for lunch - and it was hit and miss. I choose sweet and sour ribs from the central buffet (not the Chinese station which they also have) and the sides offered were lasagne or quiche (the miss was in the accompaniment. Who wants lasagne with sweet and sour ribs? no one as these were tougher than shoe... More

Visited here while in Hiroshima over Christmas. Beautiful, HUGE place with certainly something for everyone. There is the bakery with walk up service, several restaurants, a florist shop, and even a bakery school with windows to the street so you can watch the students at work. We bought a few pastries to take away and were very impressed with our... More

This restaurant and store is fun to walk around in even if you don't enjoy the breakfast or lunch. Great bakery items and gourmet foods.

Found this place through the rough guide and really pleased we did. Fantastic range of foods (salad, seafood, bread, cheese, Danish pastry) with enough of a Japanese option that it was authentic but enough western options to please all tastes. Would definitely recommend. Was going to eat upstairs but we couldn't quite figure out how to do it (and downstairs... More

It was nice to take a break from the japanese cuisine and SPLURGE in danish pastry. With a lot to choose from you will probably have to buy more than you normally would. They even have whole grain bread. Nice!

We were wandering through the shopping area looking for something to eat, when by chance we found this establishment. Like a food hall in a department store is is set out in areas, deli counter, bakery, boulangerie, charcuterie counter, wine etc etc. But you can grab some tongs and a tray and pick up what you want and eat it...
