While the main stew (paomo) is tasty and hearty for a cold winter's day, the two dead bugs in our cold side dish put an end to our appetites. We went to the more upscale branch in the eastern part of the city. The restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of a corner building. Even though there is no... More

We both had the mutton and bread stew here which is a local specialty of Xian. It was very filling and tasty. The food choices in Xian are very limited to western pallets but this restaurant has mastered this dish. The location of the restaurant is upstairs in a shopping mall and the décor isn't very flash. Although it is... More

We had of, and were greatly looking forward to eating at, this famous restaurant in Xian. After catching a taxis to the restaurant we found it mostly empty. The restaurant is on the eastern side of the main east-west road running through Xian and is on the top of a shopping mall. It is not in the Muslim quarter. We... More

Without hesitation to choose this restaurant that is said to be the No.1 of Yangrou Paomo. It is a tasty Xi'an specialty that consist of a mutton soup served with wheat bread. Of course you can have waiter make the bread into pieces and add to the soup, but I decided to do it myself. The bread is really hard and... More

This was one of the most memorable meals we had on our trip to China. The restaurant is huge and brightly lit and you sit at communal yellow tables. We were the only westerners in the restaurant and locals were definitely eyeing us suspiciously but we had read how to prepare the mutton stew so we at least looked like... More

Although it used to be the most famed Paomo restaurant in the city, It caters mainly to tourists both domestic and abroad now. Local people seldom dine at this because it's generally overpriced compared with its less famed peers.

It was difficult to find this restaurant as it is on the 3rd floor and we had to ask for it several times. But once we found it we were quite happy. The food was interesting. They serve a special goat soup which was quite tasty once you added the cilantro and hot sauce. They had many other dishes which... More

There is plenty of choice of snacks in the muslim area of Xi'an but this one you should try it and it's one of the best. The volume makes that the recipe has been practice for thousand of times and the taste is excellent. Not for tourist as you will see many locals there as well. You better like the... More

Basically this place is one of the two most famous (the other being Tongshengxiang) Paomo places in Xi'an, which you won't find the same taste in somewhere else (even the taste varies from different locations, although they are under the same brand). The flavor might not accommodate everyone, but for those who are seeking for unique dining experience this place... More

One of the many restaurants we visited on a 10 day trip through XIAN. The restaurant is an old famous name in the Muslim zone so everyone can help you to find it. The decor is OK but not plush and the whole place has a tourism theme to it. We are in a group of 22 so were given... More
