So many dumplings

To eat at this restaurant is an amazing experience. We were served tea, rice wine and beer and then maybe 20+ different dumplings - various filings, some savoury, some sweet and the final act was miniature dumplings cooked in a mushroom broth at our table - just extraordinary

I have never given a poor rating on Trip Advisor, but take my word for it this place is not a pleasant experience. I don't care how many ways they try to make DUMPlings, if they are cold they are just disgusting. And who in their right mind wants a Walnut dumpling...really ! I would suggest tour groups should go... More

I was part of a tour group n visited de da Chang on 22 April 2015. I found the cao ci tasteless. The last dish which is the signature dish highlighting the smallest cao ci in the world was bland tasteless soup with 8 pieces of cao ci, the size of very small marbles. The waitress was more interested in... More

We were there with a tour group and all food was preordered for us. In fact there were at least 2 large tour groups there besides our group. The dumplings were plentiful and different but nothing any different than what we had at most large tourist oriented places we were taken to. It's definitely a tourist spot. One reviewer said... ”德發長“ Nothing much I can more than my description. Typical Chinese restaurant, with no English speaking staff/menu. Many options to chose from comprising mainly of dumplings and local dishes.

We had a wonderful time at DeFa Chang and would definitely recommend it to those visiting Xi'an. There was no English menu and our Mandarin was quite limited, but the 128RMB menu for two provided more than enough delicious food for 3 of us (one is a tween).

Seems every tour group that visits Xi'an (Xian) must eat dinner here one night. This government owned restaurant has changed dramatically over the last 5 years, from very nice and special into something better left for "the other guy" to try. While my tour group ate upstairs where they serve the 25 different dumplings, I ate downstairs where the locals... More

This is mostly a tourist trap (Chinese package tour groups overflow this place). If you want to know how dumplings are made, and like to see a demonstration show, then this is the place. But if you already know what dumpling is and have tried dumplings before, don't bother. Chinese locals avoid this place as the service is bad, food... More

This massive dumpling house in Xian gave our group a taste of at least 15 different types of Xian dumplings. They included a demonstration showing the artistry of these tasty creations showed like chickens, frogs, tiger faces and flowers. In terms of the taste, the dough was thicker than the more traditional dim sum I'm used to. With so many... More

We were taken there for lunch as part of a tour group. The restaurant seemed very busy but they managed it very well. They started us with some appetizers and then soup. The the dumplings started arriving and they didn't stop for a long time. We were given way too much food but I guess that's their way with tourists.... More
