Like being invited to eat in the home of an old Russian friend.

A genuinely unique find in an increasingly bland world of modernised eateries. The strength of the venue is that it has not pandered to fashion, rather its character has remained unchanged and true to its original design.Old fashioned, yes. But intriguing and original and patronised by locals. Felt... read more

I went to have dinner in Idiot's Cafe as it was rated high on TA. I wasn't disappointed. The place was interestingly decorated. The food was good and filling. I had vegetarian Borscht soup, a potato pie and "Siberian Glamor" (icecream, milk chocolate and cedar nuts). The staff was courteous and friendly.

Among the books in Russian you'll find "The Idiot" in English...read some pages to your friends while enjoying a warm and beautifully prepared Borsch.

I am typically skeptical about "famous" restaurants or those recommended in tourist guides. However The Idiot lives up to its fame and reputation. Had a wonderful early dinner here; a very unique place with excellent food and service.

We enjoyed our night at the Idiot. It was our first night and walkable from our hotel. The food was very good and we enjoyed the service as well. We weren't really sure what some of the items on the menu were. But we tried lots of things and enjoyed most of it. Lovely little spot. Casual. Seemed popular with... More

If you can have only one dinner in St Petersburg, this is your place! The restaurant has a nostalgic old fashioned feeling and a great menu. The service is quick and the staff speaks different languages and are helpful to make the right choice for your dining out. The wine list is adequate while the vodka is outstanding!

It is a veggie place, but still worth to visit as it is so cosy. You feel like being at home. The food is good, menu funny, you can play chess, read a book there,..

We were staying a few nights in St Petersburg and looking for somewhere that had vegetarian food (they also have meat dishes) it was a lovely crisp snowing evening and we were tired from exploring all day, so was bliss walking into such a warm cosy and quaint place. We were seated at a lovely table, given complimentary vodka and... More

The restaurant is arranged in a nice thematic way (artistic), the food is great, the prices are fair. Very welcoming and professional staff. Beef Stroganoff was my choice and I'd recommend it.
