We both wanted to try Russian dishes - the borsch soup was excellent and full of flavour but the pelmeni (dumplings) were a little disappointing and lacking in flavour. Finished off with wonderful pancakes.

I had a great dinner here after stumbling across this restaurant. The place itself is very cosy inside and it feels like something from a different time. The food was very nice and there was lots of selection on the menu. We also got a complementary shot of vodka with our dinner. The staff were really friendly too.

Really friendly service and fantastic food especially for vegetarians... Didn't expect to eat so well in Russia ... Lots of choice and yummy food. Was very quiet but it is winter but still felt cozy

Went there twice. Enjoyed the food both times. Pleasant service and good drinks, free shot of vodka to start the evening

Being a fan of Russian literature, I definitely had to check this place out (named after Dostoyevski's novel). I just stopped in for a few beers and they gave me a shot of vodka! They had a modest, tiny bar but--as with many of the "bars" in Russia, you end up at a table with a waiter/waitress. It's is definitely... More

You know it can't be that bad when Russians are eating at the Idiot. This place was recommended by friends and we weren't disappointed. The interior is homely-quirky-literary-quaint with books shelves, fireplaces and different furniture. We stopped for a lunch of borsch, a bread baskets and pancakes. A free shot of vodka was given before the meal, which helped warm... More

As i was staying in a nearby hotel, this basement restaurant was well worth checking out. I have eaten there twice this week, and on both occasions I was met with open and friendly staff. It caters well to a local crowd as well as tourists. English menu available. Food wonderful with a homemade feel. Don't be stupid. Go.

Read about The Idiot in travel guides, Tripadvisor and wherever. Duly went and we were disappointed. Some dishes really good but overall we got the impression that now that people (read: foreigners) know about them they make less effort (although maybe with foreigners in particular). We had very surly service (a bit more surly than one finds in Russia generally)... More

Old-fashioned, dark, russian menu, felt very literary. The food was simple, russian and delicious. I had the russian stew, which was savory, rich and perfectly balanced. My company had vegetarian patties from cabbage and broccoli, and they were also thoroughly delicious: fresh, fluffy and tasty.

Having visited this restaurant back in 2010, it was nice to have an opportunity for a return visit. The place was as fun as I remembered it - unique décor and a great selection of very well prepared traditional Russian dishes. The place felt very welcoming on a cold late October night. The service was attentive, yet we were allowed... More
