"A Bad Idea"

It was recommended as a taverna with Russian-Ukranian traditional food, where locals go for dinner. It was true, full of locals. At the entrance we saw the menu translated in so many languages. Impressive, I said. This must attract many tourists. The lady waiter took us to a table, almost running... read more

It helped that we have been wandering round in the late-night, mid-winter Moscow for literally 2 hours trying to get to this place (the whole of the nearby shopping centre was closed off and Moscow doesn't appear to have zebra crossing over main roads...) because the warmth and promise of hearty food endeared us to place before we'd even sat... Apparently a very popular restaurant not just for tourists but also locals. We had the traditional borscht soup, which was very wattery and the meat was veryfatty - the whole soup was absolutely tasteless. We then had a couple of meat and cabbage pies which were quite nice, but nothing special. As a dessert we had the fruit ravioli which... More

We were so hungry when we arrived, but the food arrived quickly and the staff knew enough English. The surroundings were cute without being kitschy. It represented Ukrainian landscape I guess. The food was good and they had also vegetarian opinions.

We went there because the place looked cool with the servers wearing traditional Ukrainian costumes and nicely decorated interior. Unfortunately neither my food or my friends was very good. His meat was chewy and mine had too much fat on it as it was not prepared very well. Also very plain with little seasoning. Wifi did not work even though... More

We didn't speak a word of Russian but the staff couldn't have been more helpful. There's an English menu which we found useful although the order of the courses was a little odd for us but that was no problem. The locals sometimes pop in for a snack, and we couldn't tell what they were eating, but we eventually got... More

This good place to try vodka, gorilla, nastoyka (home made stuff made by some cranberries or some other berry). You will go with some Ukraine traditional food and this would be good for a company visit. Without drinking it is very average food and not the real restaurant service quality.

Visited this restaurants as it was our first night in Moscow and was close to our hotel. I rang and reserved as I did not know how busy they would be for a Friday night. I thought the restaurant was amazing, the interior was very authentic. There was even live musicians walking around the different areas of the restaurant. The... More

I went there with friends who live in Moscow and love the place. So i might be biased by their own love to the place. But then we met one of their ukrainian friend who goes back there everytime he is in Moscow. The dishes are great and are typical of Ukrainian food. You can get the menu in almost... More

I visited Taras Bulba at least 4 times this August. I always left the restaurant very full and generally very happy. Of the 4 visits, only one could be classed as average or disappointing. I did have same favourites - starting with the spicy carrot salad - which contained copious amounts of garlic and a good dash of chilli pepper,... More
