Quirky but nice

We ate here during our recent visit to Essaouira. It was well recommended in our guidebook and TripAdvisor. Our guidebook went as far as to say it had become the best place to eat in town. It was very good. The chicken with fresh figs tagine was very tasty and we drank a bottle of the local, and... read more

One of the most decadent meals we've ever head. Truly located down an alley way, and up stairs that don't seem to lead to a restaurant. The interiors are quirky and fun. But the food is the main show. The complimentary bread and dips are wonderful, and we shared the salmon egg rolls. Everything was beautifully displayed and fresh. We... More

We had a very nice meal however considering the reputation of the place we did expect more. Most of the complimentary spreads weren't too nice. We had a fish like spring roll for starters which was ok. Then i had the steak which was cooked to perfection and my girlfriend the fish of the day which was too superbly cooked.... More

We had dinner at Elizir and we very highly recommend it for anyone looking for great food in a cosy atmosphere. The place is decorated with a mix of vintage items which instantaneously gets you back to your childhood. We ordered black risoto and gnochi which were simply delicious. We then all ordered balsamic beef filet. Although the preparation was... More

This restaurant had a very chic and comfortable atmosphere. The filet de boeuf and John Dory dishes were delicious...until the steak, we presume, caused my friend to end up in the W.C. all evening and into the next day. Other than that, it was a good dinner.

We knew before we arrived in Essaouira that we wanted to visit Elizir for dinner, then we read the 'poor' reviews on TA and only wanted to visit more. Why would you not want to eat in a restaurant whose owner occasionally 'loses it' with his customers? He sounded very creative, a bit volatile, and quite wonderful. The interior of... More

Elizir was fantastic! As other reviews mention, the decor is quite fun--all the art and kitsch combine to create a unique and lighthearted ambience. Also, the man who runs the restaurant is a gem of a guy, and was helpful with recommendations for what to order and also what to do in Essouaira. I enjoyed the items I ordered (fish... More

This is a quirky little cafe with a modern take on Moroccan food. I recommend the egg rolls with goats cheese and honey and the seafood pastille. The avocado juice is delicious and sweetened with dates and almonds.

Wonderful quirky decor ! And the food is delish. I didn't want cheese in my tagine and the owner took it upon himself to do a "custom" dish which was wonderful. My chocolate cake was great, dark chocolate and slighly runny served with a fruit salad and ice cream! Total with sparkling water and tea : 400 dh
