Description: (Cafe Hours: 12noon-7pm; Tue to Sat) A cosy little cafe tucked away in a narrow lane in the heritage enclave of George Town, Penang. We specialise in simple but hearty treats, especially favourites from many childhood memories of home. From muffins, cookies and tarts, to a selection of teas and single-origin coffees, to homemade ginger beer, fruit ice lollies, ice cream, and a small changing selection of hot-cooked meals, visiting Soohongry is indeed like a visit to your favourite aunt's or to grandma's! Even better, the cafe is actually the front portion of the owner's home, and feels like it, being laid out more like a cosy living room than an eatery. Here, one walks in a customer, and leaves as a friend. Come with an open mind, an open heart, and most importantly, do come when you are soohongry!

Rudy and his girlfriend were wonderful hosts in this charming home-style restaurant located off Lebuh Armenian. We went there due to the great reviews on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. The pork adobo was amazing and my children really enjoyed their apple crumble dessert.

Great home-style vibe that extends to the excellent & filling food, Soohongry is a definite must-go. Great ambience, and left feeling like I had gained new friends. Loved the pork adobo - simple but delicious comfort food. Thank you! Tommy is a legend, too :)

After a long walking tour of the street art around Georgetown, we stumbled on this lovely cafe that was tucked in a narrow alleyway. The cafe was quite cosy for our party of six but we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. The food was AH-MAH-ZING! The Adobo Pork was delicious and the portions were perfect. The lemon poppyseed muffin is also... More

Rudy, the owner, will chat with you about this and that while you are sipping a tea, ginger beer, maybe eating a home made muffin; you are in good hands. Just remember it closes on Sun, Mon and is open from 12:00 onwards.

This is the second time my wife and I visit the island and we had to come back to this small cafe right in downtown Penang, last year we were here too we had such a nice experience so we decided to check if we could repeat it. Even better, this time we tried the ginger beer, fantastic, the food... More

We went here for a quick bite but ended up staying till closing time. The owner talked with us for hours and because of his tour guide background he told us everything we wanted to know about Georgetown. A great storyteller and host in one! Because his wife was not around he only had one dish on the menu; garlic... More

Dear Bloembakkies, many thanks for the glowing review! It was our pleasure to serve and to enjoy your company. Just wanted to clarify, the adobo pork dish actually costs only RM16, and the remaining RM10 would have been for drinks, either two RM5 drinks like lemonade, iced lemon tea or hot tea, or RM10 for an iced milk coffee. That's... More

We stumbled onto this tiny cafe on the street art tour. We started with sumptuous ice coffees and mango juice. The mains were not quick in arriving because each meal was cooked with care and thought. It gave us time to cool off and chat about the terrific street art. The meals were excellent, as were the desserts . The... More

Dining in Soohongry has made my day. Although the eating place was a bit cramped and small, the ambience was good. The owner, Rudy was so friendly. We chatted for hours and happily shared our own views and stories. I like the way the owner interact with customers. You can rarely see any other shop's owners talk to the customers... More

Definitely tucked away, but worth going. Try the homemade ginger beer-very good. Tiny place, so you might have to wait for a table. Inside is interesting, books and postcards from all over the world. We had the Philippine pork with rice. Our hotel was just behind it, so they showed us the short cut to go back. :)
