The nan bread was soft and very nice. The dhal curry was not thcik enough. The briyani i was very unsatisfied, dry and tasteless. But the champion is the Chicken tandoori vey delicious and the mint with chilli sauce also vey damn good. We returned to this Restaurant several times because of the Food being so good and reasonable. The Tandoori Chicken with Roti is a must try, unfortunate they dont serve it with a variety of pickles or Chutneys like they do in India.

This is one of the places I make a bee line for when I hit Penang, and the main reason I go to Penang is to eat. This is a local's joint, non-pretentious, very reasonably priced. It too often suffers however from inconsistent availability of the items on its menu, which tends to piss one off when you have flown... More

Back in Penang again and just had to visit Kapitan. We had two meals during our stay and the food is still consistantly good and very very reasonable. In retrospect we might have been a little more adventurous but the Tandoori Chicken Masala and the Butter Chicken were so outstanding we stayed safe. This probably isn't recommended before one becomes... More

This restaurant is a most on all my visits to the island over the past 6 years. It is a bustling open air halal restaurant located near Masjid Kapitan Keling. The have good naan and tandoori; moreover, there briyani is good, but there butter chicken is better. Portions are generous for the affordable price. We had four plain naan, one... More

I was craving Indian food on my trip through Malaysia. My friend Deeray and I chanced upon this place and spent an afternoon drinking Indian chaai (tea) and munching on excellent butter chicken, tandoori chicken, mutton rolls, biryani. Food was almost Indian with a Malay touch (sweeter than pure Indian). Prices are very reasonable.

I have to be honest, the plain naan set was the best indian meal I've ever had, and I've had a lot of indian. Comes with 3 sauces, large naan bread and a large piece of tandoori chicken for less than $3 Australian dollars. The tandoori chicken was so juicy and very we'll cooked. My partner and I shared it... Checked out TA and decided to go to Kapitan during my trip to Penang. Tried the recommended dishes and added a few more. Food was delish and reasonably priced. Lots of interesting people to stare at. A real mix mosh of all types. Open air, so can be hot. Staff was very helpful and service was good.

It turns out that after trying their Chicken Tikka Korma, Lamb Claypot Biriyani and Tandoori Chicken Sets, the Tandoori is King. The chicken breast quarters were surprisingly moist while delectable bits of the portion were caramelized to a savory crisp! The naan were generous portions covering the Ernie plate and served with curry gravy, tamarind and mint chutney. The cheese... More
