Tourist stop

When going to Malindi for the first time "the old man and the sea" is a must stop on your itinerary, the food is fresh and sourced locally the restaurant is very small and you sit practically on top of each other, with this said every tourist should visit this local landmark...

Sorry to say, but this place is more than history....in all travel books you can read about it...but see by your self...nothing changed....everything goes old and dirty....the service is not good anymore, and the menus.....old fashion.....sorry...hope the best for the future......

It's hard to find any original restaurants in this town so the Old Man stands out with its creative dishes and homey atmosphere. The waiting staff seem a bit lost at times but are always friendly and try to be helpful.

After having read 168 positive reviews we tried this place and we really can't understand where this reviews come from. We were 6 people at our table and the rest of the restaurant was empty exept for a couple and another group. We had to wait 1 hour for the starters: the seafood crepe was good but the seafood tagliatelle... More

We were six people, looking for a nice restaurant and lovely food as rated by most of the travelers here! It has ended to be an awful experience both for the quality of the food and the service. We actually waited one hour to get the dishes and the taste was unacceptable. Everything was overpriced and surely this restaurant ruined... More

It is not easy to find a spot on the coast os Kenya where there is much more than pizza and spagetti. This small and a bit hidden restaurant gives you a perfect choice with fresh fish and sea-food but also excellent meat and even a fair wine list. Do not miss the coconut rice and give them a largely... More

We've been here now four times over a couple of years and every single time it has been fantastic. Particular highlights: the pepper crab, the queen prawn masala, the seafish fillet. Nothing we've ordered here has ever disappointed. An absolute must visit for everybody going to Malindi.

Stumbled upon the old man and the sea while in Malindi, we had the mixed seafood platter and it was a delightful meal. The only issue is the king prawns were on the small side for 'king' prawns. Also, they don't accept payment by debit/credit cards so have cash or mpesa (mobile payment platform in Kenya) on hand.
