Ask to be seated in one of the yurts (imitation of traditional Kazakh houses) - and in addition to the great food you will also get to experience a bit of the history and the culture of the country. The service is very good (by Kazakhstan's standards)

Amazing restaurant, the food is fantastic and the owner is one of the funniest guys I've ever met. He really looks after the customers. The service was great as always. If you're ever in Almaty and need something to eat, I would seriously recommend Gakku! After staying at the Rixos Hotel for a few nights, it was so refreshing to... More

A bit difficult to find, hidden in a side street off Satpaeva, at the ground floor of a nondescript apartment block, the only sign a yurt parked outside. But once you are there, you are rewarded for the search. The decor is nice and bright. Guests can dine in the traditional yurt for the real thing. Even if you are... More

This Place has a great set up, yurta style alfresco area was very good. Other than that its very hard to find unless you have a local guide (even he got confused). Service was goodish however most of the menu was unavailable. I wanted the horse steak on the hot stone and was told it had been discontinued so had... More

the service was really bad - although the restaurant was empty! I think it says alot. I saw it was highly ranked on Tripadviser so i tried it (twice) in both time it was empty with grampy service. There are alot of better restaurants in Almaty. Stay Away

In Almaty for 3 nights, first night in Shakespeare, food okay but good atmosphere. Thought we would try local, but disappointed. 9 of us ate and nobody was inspired by their food, it was bland and simple. We all fitted into the yuhrt which was entertaining, company great food disappointing!

Went to Almaty for business and the locals what was the best place for traditional Kazakhstan food. They all recommend Gakku. Went with five co-workers and each of us tried something different. It was all good and we went there again before we left. Next time in town, I will go again.

Ordinary restaurant, with ordinary traditional food. The ‘yurta’ room in the restaurant is quite small ! (even though look large on the photos). On a hot summer day when we went there – the air conditioner in the yurta did not work – it was stuffy and very hot inside. After many complaints, the waiter did try at last to... More

All what I can say about Gakku restaurant, I would recommend this place to visit for all guests of Almaty. This is a really Kazakh cuisine, not Uzbek, as many other "National" restaurants in Kazakhstan.
