Guilty Ramen Binge and The Best Chashu

This ramen shop had excellent Ramen. Though it was my first Ramen in Kagoshima, I was blown away by the smokiness of this tonkotsu broth. I don't know if it is unique to this restaurant or common for Kagoshima, but it is delicious and wonderful and I've never had a broth like it anywhere else in... read more

I still think about it. They do the kagoshima style chashu ramen perfectly. They are also open late.

It is indeed the best I've tried. The Tontoro (black fatty pork cut) is super tender and full of flavor, amazing!! The shop is small but I never had to wait too long to get in. Totally recommended!

Great ramen with good service and large servings. I had an original and the serving was big for me, but then again I only have a small stomach. The soup base was very good, it had depth compared to ippudo (that is good too, but to toro definitely better)! Very fatty pork pieces which I loved !! Will hopefully get... More

I would say one of the best Ramen you can have in Japan. And the steamed dumplings are unforgettabale too ! After the first dinner, I decided to come back there for the second dinner; normally I usually try every time something new, but at this time I loved Tontoro and I decided to visit the restaurant a second time... This place is such a treasure. The shop is a bit small, the menu simple but it hosts some of the most delicious ramen I have had throughout my travels in Japan. Lunch and Dinner times are always busy so arrived an hour early or later to avoid long wait times and being rushed. The largest table they have will... More

We stopped in for a meal. The place was busy but we managed to get a seat. The food was excellently prepared and delicious. The price is reasonable and could not get a better dish of ramen anywhere else.

We found this place with little trouble - look for the old house with the red awning. This a counter with seats and low tables on tatami mats for larger groups. Within minutes of sitting down we each had a bowl of the house specialty - Tontoro Ramen, which is ramen in a thick tonkotsu broth. It was deep, delicious and... More

There are as many different ramen as there are restaurants, but I must say Tontoro's ramen are very distinctive. Very tasty and the small portion is very light and serves as a very good starter to the evening or as a good evening food before returning home. One of the better ramen-ya san in Japan.
