As at least one other reviewer has said so, you won't get the best seafood dishes here, but the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is indeed spectacular and it's a really nice dining experience whether with friends, family or business entertainment (which you'll see lots going on while there)... Many people would say that their squid sashimi is the star... More

We walked into Chikae at around 5.15pm without a reservation. We almost did not make it to dine there. However, one of the waitresses kindly squeezed us into a corner row in front of the many large tanks...and 20 minutes later ushered us to a bigger table. That being said, highly suggest reservations be made if one chooses to dine... More

This is a dynamic and spectacular large open restaurant with both counter and table seating. Huge for a Japanese food place. Large tanks of sea water with fish swimming. Big selection of dishes, many styles - sushi, sashimi, cooked, etc. Good service by kimono clad waitresses. But the quality of sashimi was not up to a restaurant like Yamanaka. Why?... More

Incredibly fun to sit around the giant fish tanks and watch everyone's dinner be netted. The food was superb. Our dinner for two was about $120, which included sake, sushi platter, sashimi platter, shrimp tempura (best we've ever had) and dessert. Excellent value for an unforgettable meal.

This is a very traditional and famous Japanese restaurant in Fukuoka. My family and friends (5 persons) visited there for dinner during our stay in Fukuoka. After a warm greeting, a sincere young waitress took us upstairs to a big and cosy private dining room. Regarding the food, we ordered several types of dishes such as sushi plate, assorted sashimi,... More

Chikae is one of the most well-known and popular restaurants in Fukuoka. Located in a quiet part of Daimyo, it's a short walk from Tenjin station area. The restaurant sponsors sumo, and the lanterns hanging down proudly attest to this. Waitresses wear kimono and you can dine around the fish tanks or in the traditional sunken floors where you take... Located at a quiet part of Tenjin but atmosphere was lively once got inside the restaurant. Chikae offered great dining experience with outstanding Japanese cuisine varieties. Could order sashimi, sushi, tempura, cooked fresh seafood from tanks, with lady kneeling down serving our seafood hotpot attentively. Had a delightful and delicious birthday meal at Chikae. Thank you

We ate 2 times and enjoyed so much for the dinner. Fish comes from the tank in front of you and it is so fresh. Highly recommends to try it once in a life time. They have their store right next to the restaurant to sell local food. You can find it in department store as well. Restaurant are filled... More

You know you are having the best food that Fukuoka has to offer when you line up for lunch from 11am outside the restaurant and that exactly what is CHIKAE. We made the reservation well ahead of time so we had our table ready and it took only 10 min for the food to arrive. The preparation, presentation and finally... More
