Tasty but queues will be long

Having heard good things about the simple iron pot rice dish served by Shizuka, we decided to wait it out in the queue, finally being seated after 45 minutes of waiting, despite thinking the lunchtime Rush was over by 2:15. The dish itself was generally tasty, the rice had soaked up the great... read more

We came here to try kamameshi for the first time and totally love this dish. Simple rice and seafood ingredients make such delicious taste, beauty of Japanese cuisine. The set comes with side dish, pickles and soup as well, the portion is quite filling and very satisfying. Expect to queue and prepare to wait as this restaurant is extremely popular,... More

Ate here with my family. We each ordered a set. I ordered Set A. We also ordered yakitori and oysters. It was really good. Worth the 30 minutes wait in line.

Waited for about 30 mins to got a table, then got a small pot of mixed rice to eat. The taste was on a light side but it was quite delicious.

Yes rice cooked under pressure in its own iron pot! Leaving just enough burnt rice in the bottom! Ah heaven! Also oysters and local chicken! Very popular with the visiting hong kongers, come late on the weekdays after the Osaka people go home to advise the lines (queues).

I stumbled upon this restaurant during my research on Nara and was intrigued. Shizuka serves only kamameshi of different types (crab, seafood, beef, mushrooms etc). An English menu is provided for tourists. Kamameshi is a type of rice pilaf served in an iron pot. The trick to the meal is to leave the rice in the pot, and allow some... More

We saw that this restaurant was specialized for kamameshi so, we decided to try and we were not disappointed. We arrived around 11:45am and we waited 15min. I ordered ebi kamameshi set (shrimp) and my husband ordered nara specialty kamameshi set (shrimp, crab, conger eel). Each set including miso soup, rice and pickles. The kamameshi came in a iron pot... More

The meal tastes really good. There is English instruction that teaches you how to eat it in the best way. However, it is really popular that we went there at the opening time and it was already full and we needed to wait for 1 hr to get inside. But I felt it really worth waiting.

After a day of walking in nara, we came here for lunch and yes there are long queues and we probably waited for half an hours around 2pm. Popular for its iron rice pots cooked over the fire, this was sure a satisfying meal. The rice is cooked to perfection, its very similar to a chinese hotpot but much more... More
