A nice buzzy atmosphere and good value. I would have rated it higher but we had gone to Koide the previous night where the food was much better (albeit much more expensive). Nonetheless, I'd still recommend Itaru Honten if you're looking for a casual meal full of local colour, decent beer and sake, and not touristy. Reservations are a must.

Treated as a nuisance from the moment we walked in. Considering the prices the service should be much better than this. Plenty of other restaurants offering better Japanese food in the area. Sadly they assume that all non Japanese customers are tourists with no knowledge of the language or customs.

This is really The worst restaurant in Kanazawa! I and my girl friend did not finish the sushi because they were not fresh. Ordered another cooked Sardine dish but it has very bad smell we spit it out on the tissue paper. We left in 20 minutes and wonder how everybody still eating such low quality sea foods??? The best... We had a fantastic meal here. English menu available. Busy and fun atmosphere. Also very well priced. Highly recommended.

Local dishes that are sometimes surprising for the western tourist, but your taste buds won't lie! The food is prepared in front of you and you can choose to get a menu (half you never heard of) of 6+ dishes for a reasonable price. It was fun to sit next to locals at the bar and the staff (apart from... More

We came to this restaurant according to a lonely planet opinion. We had a 4.000 yen course and having been in Japan for some days the quality was not as good as expected. Too expensive, bad taste dishes. Not even the gelato was good. Very disappointing, would not recommend at all.

We asked some friends and someone I met today for the first time and a number of people recommended Itaru. We came we ate and it was great! Stuffed ourselves with fish, mountain vegetable tempura and nihonshu.

We had a wonderful evening at Itaru, thanks to the people who surrounded us at the counter. Everyone was friendly and fun (Japanese tourists from Tokyo and Nagoya) and made the meal a real experience, even though we didn't like the food very much. Grilled local fish was tasty but we didn't really like much else. The people around us... More

We visited this restaurant on the strength of trip advisor reviews and the recommendation of the lovely lady at our ryokan. We hadn't booked and on arrival were told that we could be accommodated in half an hour. We returned and were waiting inside the restaurant when 2 other parties, locals without bookings arrived. They were seated immediately and the... More

We ate here on a recent visit to Kanazawa as part of a holiday in Japan. The food was really good and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the restraint. As visitors to Japan from the UK we were made to feel really welcome here as we were elsewhere in the country. Despite the language barrier we had a... More
