Another husband and wife team. He cooks in front of you as you sit at the bar. Tempura batter is light and not too greasy. The vegetables probably come off better than the fish (we shared eel and "whiting") but the advice to dip in a bit of salt and chilli is inspired. Changes the tats completely. Good fun and... More

Tucked away on a little street. Cozy little restaurant serving really good tempura! Hit the spot after a long day. Husband and wife seemed tired but also our Japanese is not good.

Recommended to this place for Tempura by the host of our ryokan, who also made the booking for us and gave us instructions how to find it. The usual tiny narrow eatery, but the tempura was very good - we had a set menu and it was served piece by piece as it was cooked in front of us. Can't... More

We got lucky! We just happened to come across this tiny tempura restaurant while walking down one of the narrow Takayama streets/alleyways while looking for a place to eat dinner. We were blown away by the quality of the tempura; it was delicious. We had the Ume tendon which came with miso soup, pickled vegetables, 2 shrimp, eggplant, mushroom, pepper... More

We went there following others posts and that was worth it. Very good tempura, nice local people and great couple managing the place. Very small but very good. Don't miss rhe tempura ice cream.

A small cozy place, we sat at the bar, with few local people, watching the owner preparing the food. Tempura was tasty, fish excellent. The owner is very nice and moreover, speaks English. They offer a menu with miso soup and rice but you can pick items as u like like in a tapas bar

Reserved and went because of reviews. Terrible disappointment and wonder about the reviews! In and out in less than half hour, tempura was prepared in what we regarded as a terrible rush.-stacked on the plate , And quality not very good. owner and chef appeared disinterested. We had two sahimi sets , miso soup the poorest we;ve had inJapan .... More

Chose this restaurant because of the reviews. Have literally just walked out the door and back to our ryokan. We had one sashimi (no tuna, salmon or expensive cuts ) to start shared between two followed by two serves of grilled fish with rice, pickles and miso. Washed down with a beer and a coke. Finished with tempura ice cream... More

Lovely atmosphere, watched a sumo match on tv whilst served delicious light tempura. Owners very friendly. Came with a delicious miso with enoki mushrooms. Not the cheapest we've come across but reasonable and very tasty. We were there in the winter so no other tourists in sight.
