Good little place on a quiet street. Amazing miso chicken stew and nice people with great atmosphere. 14 to 16 dollars if you stay away from hida beef. Worth a try.

My partner had the hoba beef, and I had the vegetables cooked the same way. The owner was friendly and spoke enough English to accommodate my vegetarian requests. Not too pricey. I'd recommend it.

While I was visiting Takayama my friends in Tokyo told me that I had to try the local specialty: Houbamiso Beef. At Suzuya they serve a great dish. But you can also get Shabu-Shabu and other beef dishes. The owner speaks English and is very helpful with suggesting menu items.

Went for dinner on a rainy wet night , and as always the Hida miso beef is a must. Ordered the nabe hotpot well. Really yummy food, quite traditional setting. There was an elderly lady whom took orders, though with struggling English she was very friendly and funny !

This restaurant isn't far from the hotel Best Western where we were staying. It was packed with foreigner visitors but don't let that put you off as the food is excellent.
