served in a traditional Japanese restaurant. We had famous "hitsumabushi" dish. The food was great but the dining room was a traditional tatami room and it was difficult for us to sit on the tatami mattress while dining.

This is a must try grilled eel rice. We first went on a Monday just at around 11:30am but the queue was just too long already and need probably wait for over an hour. So we decided to return later at around 3 pm for a late lunch. It was a smart choice, need only waited for about 15 mins.... More

No shortage of this dish in Nagoya, but looks like Atsuta Horaiken tops all of them. Just 10 minutes wait (Wednesday, 7.30 pm) in line, 10 minutes till the order comes and all skepticism regarding tripadvisor reviews is shattered. Really good. Really, really good. And I was not even hungry. Rice is perfect, eel is perfect, service is perfect. So... More

Kansai style unagi, crispy and not too sweet like Kanto style. There are instructions on the table as to the recommended way to eat their special unagi dish, hitsumabushi, and it is worth while following them. Written in both English and Japanese. On alighting from the elevator in Matsuzakaya we were confronted with a huge queue but duly took our... More

Eel is one of the specialties in Nagoya, and if the thought creeps you out, it shouldn't. Think barbecue. Think delicious! The restaurant is on a bleak major street in a pretty one-story tile roofed building near a huge pedestrian overpass about 1/3 mile from the Jinju subway station. Walk to it by keeping the greenery of the shrine precinct... More

1,5 hour because we decide to go show without reservation and torture by the smell of unagi being grill .... so when we being called ... the excitement begin. The unagi itself is cook to perfection ... crispy outside and tender inside and the killer secret is the unagi sauce. I have to admit this is the best unagi i... More

Waited 2 hours in a long snaking queue for lunch on Sunday. It was worth it. Like almost everyone else, we ordered the premium set. It came with instructions to eat it in 3 ways. We all agreed that it was best to have it as it came. The condiments and broth distracted from the wonderful flavours of the unagi,... More

Queued for nearly 2 hrs but had a very satisfying unagi meal thats unique (they have an unagi eating guide with 4 ways of enjoying their delicious unagi) and good to the last morsel. Prices were a tad high but then this is Japan...well worth the trip and wait.

Take note that there are 2 Atsuta Horaiken at Matsuzakaya Department Store. The B1 basement at the main building is a take-away one whereas this is the sit-in dining experince at the South Building 10F. We started to go there at 6pm, but already have to wait about 10 minutes before being seated in our street-wear. Once seated, there is... More
