Take note that there are 2 Atsuta Horaiken at Matsuzakaya Department Store. The B1 basement at the main building is a take-away one whereas this is the sit-in dining experince at the South Building 10F. We started to go there at 6pm, but already have to wait about 10 minutes before being seated in our street-wear. Once seated, there is... More

This is the real one. I went there 30 mins ago before it started. I wasn't the first person in the cue. It became really crowded in 30mins with more than 30-50people. Just go there a bit earlier if you don't have anything to do. It is not cheap. But it is worth it. I will have this even though... More

We had eel lunch at another well recommended restaurant just a day before in Kyoto and hesitated to do the same again so soon in Nagoya. But trip advisor reviews suggest that unagi in Nagoya is really quite different and for sure it is. At Atsuta it's definitely worth to try their special set - comes with instructions how to... More

It's the best eel I have ever had, even I amn't eel's lover. The waitress gave us the 'How to' eat the rice+eel. It's interesting and delicious, worth to try and pamper yourself with this at the end of the day before getting rest at the hotel. The location is convenient to access, right on the 10th floor of Matsuzakaya... More

My husband and I have eaten at restaurants all over Honshu and as far south as Kumumoto. This is one of the very best meals we have had in a restaurant. Of course we were the only westerners, but no worries, they had the seat backs for us and even offered my husband a fork ( he didn't need it).... More

We asked for a good place to try real hitsumashi at the Nagoya JR information and the woman offered us a choice of 3-4 restaurants. But when we asked her which one she would go to she pointed to Atsuta (not Atuta as listed here). It's located at the 10th floor of the South Wing of Matsuzakaya department store. We... More

There is a good reason why this is the 2nd highest rated restaurant in Nagoya, the #1 is its sister store! The eel is fantastic - exactly the same superb flavour on each of my 4 visits but the price has gone up since last year because of the shortage of baby eels. There are no reservations accepted. The restaurant... More

First of all you should know the Unagi (Eel) is not cheap as well as Sushi, just in case if you don’t know. Have a budget 3000 yen at least for the top level in general. Hitsumabushi is the Nagoya style of the Unagi dish different from Tokyo style (Edomae). It was my first time to have Nagoya Hitsumabushi although... More

Horaiken seemed to be the most popular restaurant in Nagoya for tourists. There are 4 restaurants in Nagoya and this one is easy to find because it is near Sakae. Their signature dish costs 3,100yen but there were so many people waiting to enter the restaurant. The price is bit expensive even considering that this is Japan but I would... More
