A Long Queue!: it's worth one hour waiting

Not like a usual "Una-don," you can enjoy three types of eating way and tastes. First, "Una-don," grilled over the high heat with "Bincho-tan" (very hard and good quality charcoal), you can enjoy crispy but juicy Kabayaki. Second, by adding spices such as Wasabi horseradish and finely chopped... read more

Not like a usual "Una-don," you can enjoy three types of eating way and tastes. First, "Una-don," grilled over the high heat with "Bincho-tan" (very hard and good quality charcoal), you can enjoy crispy but juicy Kabayaki. Second, by adding spices such as Wasabi horseradish and finely chopped leeks, you will experience, literally, another dish; rich in flavor. Third, pouring... More

One can actually smell the charcoal grilled eels smell and smoke as you walked out of the station.Good friendly reception and no shoes allowed inside the restaurant. The staff speak some English and has an English menu. We have eel omelet and set rice with extra portion eels.... More

I was there with tour group. Luckily they made reservation otherwise the line can be three hours long. This eel restaurant was established way back and still very famous. I had unagi rice set. Our guide described the way to enjoy it by divided into four portions. First portion is original unagi rice. Second portion eat with sea weed, wasabi... More

Went about 15 min before the evening opening hours (at 4.30 pm) on Friday and I was probably the 6th in line. I did not have to wait much as they opened fairly on time. I was alone so I only ordered the hitsumabushi (although i wanted to try the umaki) as I was afraid that I could not finish.... More

After living in Nagoya for over 25 years, Hitsumabushi is the one Nagoya speciality I would encourage all visitors to eat above all others. And to eat it, this small chain is the place to do it. Their flavour (charcoal), texture (grilled slight crunchiness but still tender), & consistent excellence is unmatched. Do not be deterred by the idea of... More

This restaurant worth the visit. In a traditional and relaxing setting, a tasty onagi-don is served to us with all explanations for a good tasting.

Last time I ate grilled eel on rice (Hitsumabushi) at Matsuzakayaten (one of 3 branches). I loved it. And this time, when I came back Nagoya I came Atsuta Horaiken Honten (head restaurant) to enjoy Hitsumabushi again. As I expected, It is great. I reminisced its delicious taste last time. Maybe Hitsumabushi food is the same quality between head restaurant... More

My friend in Toyko knew that I love Grilled eels on rice and she strongly recommended me to try this restaurant in Nagoya. So this last April, on my way from Osaka to Tokyo on JR, I stopped by Nagoya for four hours just to see how good it is. The restaurant has four branches, two in the Matsuzakaya Department... More

This was a great experience. The location is very close to the local shrine, but make sure you plane on going early as it is well known and there was even a line up of a couple people when we went at 1600 on a rainy day with threat of mild typhoon weather. Very importantly, the non-smoking area is completely... More
